| 1 | ¶ O filho sábio atende à instrução do pai; mas o escarnecedor não ouve a repreensão. | A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; But a scoffer heareth not rebuke. |
| 2 | ¶ Do fruto da boca cada um comerá o bem, mas a alma dos prevaricadores comerá a violência. | A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; But the soul of the treacherous [shall eat] violence. |
| 3 | ¶ O que guarda a sua boca conserva a sua alma, mas o que abre muito os seus lábios se destrói. | He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; [But] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. |
| 4 | ¶ A alma do preguiçoso deseja, e coisa nenhuma alcança, mas a alma dos diligentes se farta. | The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. |
| 5 | ¶ O justo odeia a palavra de mentira, mas o ímpio faz vergonha e se confunde. | A righteous man hateth lying; But a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. |
| 6 | ¶ A justiça guarda ao que é de caminho certo, mas a impiedade transtornará o pecador. | Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner. |
| 7 | ¶ Há alguns que se fazem de ricos, e não têm coisa nenhuma, e outros que se fazem de pobres e têm muitas riquezas. | There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth. |
| 8 | ¶ O resgate da vida de cada um são as suas riquezas, mas o pobre não ouve ameaças. | The ransom of a man's life is his riches; But the poor heareth no threatening. |
| 9 | ¶ A luz dos justos alegra, mas a candeia dos ímpios se apagará. | The light of the righteous rejoiceth; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. |
| 10 | ¶ Da soberba só provém a contenda, mas com os que se aconselham se acha a sabedoria. | By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom. |
| 11 | ¶ A riqueza de procedência vã diminuirá, mas quem a ajunta com o próprio trabalho a aumentará. | Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; But he that gathereth by labor shall have increase. |
| 12 | ¶ A esperança adiada desfalece o coração, mas o desejo atendido é árvore de vida. | Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. |
| 13 | ¶ O que despreza a palavra perecerá, mas o que teme o mandamento será galardoado. | Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself; But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. |
| 14 | ¶ A doutrina do sábio é uma fonte de vida para se desviar dos laços da morte. | The law of the wise is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death. |
| 15 | ¶ O bom entendimento favorece, mas o caminho dos prevaricadores é áspero. | Good understanding giveth favor; But the way of the transgressor is hard. |
| 16 | ¶ Todo prudente procede com conhecimento, mas o insensato espraia a sua loucura. | Every prudent man worketh with knowledge; But a fool flaunteth [his] folly. |
| 17 | ¶ O que prega a maldade cai no mal, mas o embaixador fiel é saúde. | A wicked messenger falleth into evil; But a faithful ambassador is health. |
| 18 | ¶ Pobreza e afronta virão ao que rejeita a instrução, mas o que guarda a repreensão será honrado. | Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth correction; But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored. |
| 19 | ¶ O desejo que se alcança deleita a alma, mas apartar-se do mal é abominável para os insensatos. | The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. |
| 20 | ¶ O que anda com os sábios ficará sábio, mas o companheiro dos tolos será destruído. | Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise; But the companion of fools shall smart for it. |
| 21 | ¶ O mal perseguirá os pecadores, mas os justos serão galardoados com o bem. | Evil pursueth sinners; But the righteous shall be recompensed with good. |
| 22 | ¶ O homem de bem deixa uma herança aos filhos de seus filhos, mas a riqueza do pecador é depositada para o justo. | A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous. |
| 23 | ¶ O pobre, do sulco da terra, tira mantimento em abundância; mas há os que se consomem por falta de juízo. | Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor; But there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice. |
| 24 | ¶ O que não faz uso da vara odeia seu filho, mas o que o ama, desde cedo o castiga. | He that spareth his rod hateth his son; But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. |
| 25 | ¶ O justo come até ficar satisfeito, mas o ventre dos ímpios passará necessidade. | The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; But the belly of the wicked shall want. |
