Provérbios 1

Ordsprog af Salomo, Davids Søn, Israels Konge. ¶ The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
Af dem skal man lære Visdom forstandig Tale, To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
tage mod Tugt, som gør klog, mod Retfærdighed, Ret og Retsind; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; {equity: Heb. equities}
de skal give tankeløse Klogskab, ungdommen Kundskab og Kløgt; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. {discretion: or, advisement}
den vise høre og øge sin Viden, den forstandige vinde sig Levekunst; A wise {man} will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
de skal lære at tyde Ordsprog og Billeder, de vises Ord og Gåder. To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. {the interpretation: or, an eloquent speech}
HERRENs Frygt er Kundskabs begyndelse, Dårer ringeagter Visdom og Tugt. ¶ The fear of the LORD {is} the beginning of knowledge: {but} fools despise wisdom and instruction. {the beginning: or, the principal part}
My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
thi begge er en yndig Krans til dit Hoved og Kæder til din Hals. For they {shall be} an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. {an...: Heb. an adding}
Min Søn, sig nej, når Syndere lokker! ¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
Vi vinder os Gods og Guld, vi fylder vore Huse med Rov. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
- min Søn, gå da ikke med dem, hold din Fod fra deres Sti; We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
thi deres Fødder løber efter ondt, de haster for at udgyde Blod. Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
Thi det er unyttigt at udspænde Garnet for alle Fugles Øjne; My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
de lurer på eget Blod, lægger Baghold for eget Liv. For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
Så går det enhver, der attrår Rov, det tager sin Herres Liv. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. {in the...: Heb. in the eyes of every thing that hath a wing}
Visdommen råber på Gaden, på Torvene løfter den Røsten; And they lay wait for their {own} blood; they lurk privily for their {own} lives.
oppe på Murene kalder den, tager til Orde i Byen ved Portindgangene: So {are} the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; {which} taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
Hvor længe vil I tankeløse elske Tankeløshed, Spotterne finde deres Glæde i Spot og Dårerne hade kundskab? ¶ Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: {Wisdom: Heb. Wisdoms, that is, Excellent wisdom}
Vend eder til min Revselse! Se, jeg lader min Ånd udvælde for eder, jeg kundgør eder mine Ord: She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, {saying},
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
men I lod hånt om alt mit Råd og tog ikke min Revselse til jer, Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
derfor ler jeg ved eders Ulykke, spotter, når det, I frygter, kommer, Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
Da svarer jeg ej, når de kalder, de søger mig uden at finde, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
fordi de hadede Kundskab og ikke valgte HERRENs Frygt; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
Frugt af deres Færd skal de nyde og mættes med egne Råd; For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
thi tankeløses Egensind bliver deres Død, Tåbers Sorgløshed bliver deres Undergang; They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. {turning...: or, ease of the simple}
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
