Es dürstet meine Seele nach dir; mein Fleisch verlangt nach dir in einem trockenen und dürren Land, wo kein Wasser ist. | A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee, In a dry and weary land, where no water is. |
| 2 | Daselbst sehe ich nach dir in deinem Heiligtum, wollte gerne schauen deine Macht und Ehre. | So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary, To see thy power and thy glory. |
| 3 | Denn deine Güte ist besser denn Leben; meine Lippen preisen dich. | Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise thee. |
| 4 | Daselbst wollte ich dich gerne loben mein Leben lang und meine Hände in deinem Namen aufheben. | So will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. |
| 5 | Das wäre meines Herzens Freude und Wonne, wenn ich dich mit fröhlichem Munde loben sollte. {~} | My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; |
| 6 | Wenn ich mich zu Bette lege, so denke ich an dich; wenn ich erwache, so rede ich von dir. | When I remember thee upon my bed, [And] meditate on thee in the night-watches. |
| 7 | Denn du bist mein Helfer, und unter dem Schatten deiner Flügel frohlocke ich. | For thou hast been my help, And in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. |
| 8 | Meine Seele hanget dir an; deine rechte Hand erhält mich. | My soul followeth hard after thee: Thy right hand upholdeth me. |
| 9 | Sie aber stehen nach meiner Seele, mich zu überfallen; sie werden unter die Erde hinunterfahren. | But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, Shall go into the lower parts of the earth. |
| 10 | Sie werden ins Schwert fallen und den Füchsen zuteil werden. | They shall be given over to the power of the sword: They shall be a portion for foxes. |
| 11 | Aber der König freut sich in Gott. Wer bei ihm schwört, wird gerühmt werden; denn die Lügenmäuler sollen verstopft werden. | But the king shall rejoice in God: Every one that sweareth by him shall glory; For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. |
