| 2 | (H49:3)niin alhaiset kuin ylhäiset, rikas ja köyhä yhtä lailla! | High and low together, the poor, and those who have wealth. |
| 3 | (H49:4)Suuni puhuu tiedon sanoja, sydämeni pohtii viisautta. | From my mouth will come words of wisdom; and in the thoughts of my heart will be knowledge. |
| 4 | (H49:5)Minä tahdon tutkistella mietelauseita, ratkoa arvoituksia lyyraa soittaen. | I will put my teaching into a story; I will make my dark sayings clear with music. |
| 5 | (H49:6)Miksi pelkäisin pahana päivänä, kun petturien kavaluus saartaa minut? | What cause have I for fear in the days of evil, when the evil-doing of those who are working for my downfall is round about me? |
| 6 | (H49:7)He luottavat rikkauteensa, kerskailevat suurella omaisuudellaan. | Even of those whose faith is in their wealth, and whose hearts are lifted up because of their stores. |
| 7 | (H49:8)Mutta henkeään ihminen ei voi lunastaa, ei hän voi käydä kauppaa Jumalan kanssa. | Truly, no man may get back his soul for a price, or give to God the payment for himself; |
| 8 | (H49:9)Elämän lunnaat ovat liian kalliit, ne jäävät iäksi maksamatta. | (Because it takes a great price to keep his soul from death, and man is not able to give it.) |
| 9 | (H49:10)Ei ihminen elä ikuisesti, ei hän vältä hautaa. | So that he might have eternal life, and never see the underworld. |
| 10 | (H49:11)Viisaatkin kuolevat, se on nähty, yhtä lailla kuin tyhmät ja typerät. Heidän omaisuutensa jää muille. | For he sees that wise men come to their end, and foolish persons of low behaviour come to destruction together, letting their wealth go to others. |
| 11 | (H49:12)Hauta on ikuisesti heidän kotinsa, heidän asuntonsa ajasta aikaan, vaikka he eläessään omistivat maat ja mannut. | The place of the dead is their house for ever, and their resting-place through all generations; those who come after them give their names to their lands. |
| 12 | (H49:13)Rikkainkaan ihminen ei ole ikuinen, eläinten tavoin hän lakkaa olemasta. | But man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts. |
| 13 | (H49:14)Tämä on heidän tiensä, mielettömien tie, ja yhä uudet ihmiset mieltyvät heidän puheisiinsa. (sela) | This is the way of the foolish; their silver is for those who come after them, and their children get the pleasure of their gold. (Selah.) |
| 14 | (H49:15)Kuin lammaslauma he vaipuvat tuonelaan, kuolema paimentaa heitä siellä. Jo seuraavana päivänä oikeamieliset kulkevat heidän ylitseen. Tuonela on heidän asuinsijansa, se kuihduttaa heidät. | Death will give them their food like sheep; the underworld is their fate and they will go down into it; their flesh is food for worms; their form is wasted away; the underworld is their resting-place for ever. |
| 15 | (H49:16)Mutta Jumala lunastaa minut, hän tempaa minut tuonelan otteesta. (sela) | But God will get back my soul; for he will take me from the power of death. (Selah.) |
| 16 | (H49:17)Älä kadehdi, kun joku rikastuu, kun hän kartuttaa talonsa omaisuutta. | Have no fear when wealth comes to a man, and the glory of his house is increased; |
| 17 | (H49:18)Kuollessaan hän ei ota mukaansa mitään, hänen omaisuutensa ei seuraa häntä hautaan. | For at his death, he will take nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. |
| 18 | (H49:19)Vaikka hän eläessään ihastelee osaansa ja toiset kiittävät hänen menestystään, | Though he might have pride in his soul in his life-time, and men will give you praise if you do well for yourself, |
| 19 | (H49:20)hänen täytyy mennä isiensä luo, paikkaan, jossa ei valoa nähdä. | He will go to the generation of his fathers; he will not see the light again. |
| 20 | (H49:21)Rikkainkaan ihminen ei ole ikuinen, eläinten tavoin hän lakkaa olemasta. | Man, like the animals, does not go on for ever; he comes to an end like the beasts. |
