| 1 | ¶ O ancião à Senhora eleita e a seus filhos, que amo na verdade. Não somente eu, mas também todos os que conheceram a verdade, | ¶ The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; |
| 2 | por causa da verdade que permanece em nós e que ficará conosco eternamente. | For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. |
| 3 | Estejam convosco, na verdade e no amor: graça, misericórdia e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, Filho do Pai. | Grace be with you, mercy, {and} peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. {be: Gr. shall be} |
| 4 | Muito me alegrei por ter achado entre teus filhos alguns que andam na verdade, conforme o mandamento que temos recebido do Pai. | I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. |
| 5 | ¶ E agora rogo-te, Senhora, não como quem te escreve um novo mandamento, mas sim o que tivemos desde o princípio: que nos amemos uns aos outros. | ¶ And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. |
| 6 | Nisto consiste o amor: que vivamos segundo seus mandamentos. É este o mandamento que tendes ouvido desde o princípio, e segundo o qual deveis viver. | And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. |
| 7 | ¶ Muitos sedutores têm saído pelo mundo afora, os quais não proclamam Jesus Cristo que se encarnou. Quem assim proclama é o sedutor e o Anticristo. | ¶ For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. |
| 8 | Acautelai-vos, para que não percais o fruto de nosso trabalho, mas antes possais receber plena recompensa. | Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. {wrought: or, gained, some copies read, ye have gained, but that ye, etc.} |
| 9 | Todo aquele que caminha sem rumo e não permanece na doutrina de Cristo, não tem Deus. Quem permanece na doutrina, este possui o Pai e o Filho. | Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. |
| 10 | ¶ Se alguém vier a vós sem trazer esta doutrina, não o recebais em vossa casa, nem o saudeis. | ¶ If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into {your} house, neither bid him God speed: |
| 11 | Porque quem o saúda toma parte em suas obras más. | For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. |
| 12 | ¶ Apesar de ter mais coisas que vos escrever, não o quis fazer com papel e tinta, mas espero estar entre vós e conversar de viva voz, para que a vossa alegria seja perfeita. | ¶ Having many things to write unto you, I would not {write} with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. {face to...: Gr. mouth to mouth} {our: or, your} |
| 13 | Saúdam-te os filhos de tua irmã, a escolhida. | The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen. |
