Jó 12

1 And Job answered and said, Felele erre Jób, és monda:
2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. Bizonyára ti magatok vagytok a nép, és veletek kihal a bölcseség!
3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yes, who knoweth not such things as these? Nékem is van annyi eszem, mint néktek, és nem vagyok alábbvaló nálatok, és ki ne tudna ilyenféléket?
4 I am as one mocked by his neighbor, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is derided. Kikaczagják a saját barátai azt, mint engem, a ki Istenhez kiált és meghallgatja õt. Kikaczagják az igazat, az ártatlant!
5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. A szerencsétlen megvetni való, gondolja, a ki boldog; ez vár azokra, a kiknek lábok roskadoz.
6 The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly. A kóborlók sátrai csendesek és bátorságban vannak, a kik ingerlik az Istent, és a ki kezében hordja Istenét.
7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Egyébiránt kérdezd meg csak a barmokat, majd megtanítanak, és az égnek madarait, azok megmondják néked.
8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare to thee. Avagy beszélj a földdel és az megtanít téged, a tengernek halai is elbeszélik néked.
9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? Mindezek közül melyik nem tudja, hogy az Úrnak keze cselekszi ezt?
10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. A kinek kezében van minden élõ állatnak élete, és minden egyes embernek a lelke.
11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste its food? Nemde nem a fül próbálja-é meg a szót, és az íny kóstolja meg az ételt?
12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. A vén emberekben van-é a bölcseség, és az értelem a hosszú életben-é?
13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding. Õ nála van a bölcseség és hatalom, övé a tanács és az értelem.
14 Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. Ímé, a mit leront, nem épül föl az; ha valakire rázárja [az ajtót,] nem nyílik föl az.
15 Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth. Ímé, ha a vizeket elfogja, kiszáradnak; ha kibocsátja õket, felforgatják a földet.
16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his. Õ nála van az erõ és okosság; övé az eltévelyedett és a ki tévelygésre visz.
17 He leadeth counselors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools. A tanácsadókat fogságra viszi, és a birákat megbolondítja.
18 He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle. A királyok bilincseit feloldja, és övet köt derekukra.
19 He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty. A papokat fogságra viszi, és a hatalmasokat megbuktatja.
20 He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged. Az ékesen szólótól eltávolítja a beszédet és a vénektõl elveszi a tanácsot.
21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty. Szégyent zúdít az elõkelõkre, és a hatalmasok övét megtágítja.
22 He revealeth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth to light the shades of death. Feltárja a sötétségbõl a mélységes titkokat, és a halálnak árnyékát is világosságra hozza.
23 He increaseth nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth nations, and straiteneth them again. Nemzeteket növel fel, azután elveszíti õket; nemzeteket terjeszt ki messzire, azután elûzi õket.
24 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. Elveszi eszöket a föld népe vezetõinek, és úttalan pusztában bujdostatja õket.
25 They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man. És világtalan setétben tapogatóznak, és tántorognak, mint a részeg.
