| 1 | And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him to Pilate. | És fölkelvén az õ egész sokaságuk, vivék õt Pilátushoz. |
| 2 | And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king. | És kezdék õt vádolni, mondván: Úgy találtuk, hogy ez a népet félrevezeti, és tiltja a császár adójának fizetését, mivelhogy õ magát ama király Krisztusnak mondja. |
| 3 | And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. | Pilátus pedig megkérdé õt, mondván: Te vagy-é a zsidók királya? És õ felelvén néki, monda: Te mondod! |
| 4 | Then said Pilate to the chief priests, and to the people, I find no fault in this man. | Monda pedig Pilátus a fõpapoknak és a sokaságnak: Semmi bûnt nem találok ez emberben. |
| 5 mapa | And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place. | De azok erõsködének, mondván: A népet felzendíti, tanítván az egész Júdeában, elkezdve Galileától mind idáig. |
| 6 | When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. | Pilátus pedig Galileát hallván, megkérdé, vajjon galileai ember-é õ? |
| 7 mapa | And as soon as he knew that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself was also at Jerusalem at that time. | És mikor megtudta, hogy õ a Héródes hatósága alá tartozik, Héródeshez küldé õt, mivelhogy az is Jeruzsálemben vala azokban a napokban. |
| 8 | And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he had been for a long time, desirous to see him, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to see some miracle done by him. | Héródes pedig Jézust látván igen megörüle: mert sok idõtõl fogva kívánta õt látni, mivelhogy sokat hallott õ felõle, és reménylé, hogy majd valami csodát lát, melyet õ tesz. |
| 9 | Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing. | Kérdezé pedig õt sok beszéddel; de õ semmit nem felele néki. |
| 10 | And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him. | [Ott] állanak vala pedig a fõpapok és az írástudók, teljes igyekezettel vádolván õt. |
| 11 | And Herod with his troops set him at naught, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. | Héródes pedig az õ katonáival egybe semminek állítván és kicsúfolván õt, minekutána felöltöztette fényes ruhába, visszaküldé Pilátushoz. |
| 12 | And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together; for before they were at enmity between themselves. | És az napon lõnek barátok egymással Pilátus és Héródes; mert az elõtt ellenségeskedésben valának egymással. |
| 13 | And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and the people, | Pilátus pedig a fõpapokat, fõembereket és a népet egybegyûjtvén, |
| 14 | Said to them, Ye have brought this man to me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man, touching those things of which ye accuse him; | Monda nékik: Ide hoztátok nékem ez embert, mint a ki a népet félrevezeti: és ímé én ti elõttetek kivallatván, semmi olyan bûnt nem találtam ez emberben, a mivel õt vádoljátok: |
| 15 | No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and lo, nothing worthy of death is done to him: | De még Héródes sem; mert titeket õ hozzá igazítálak; és ímé semmi halálra való dolgot nem cselekedett õ. |
| 16 | I will therefore chastise him, and release him. | Megfenyítvén azért õt, elbocsátom. |
| 17 | (For of necessity he must release one to them at the feast.) | Kell vala pedig elbocsátania nékik ünnepenként egy [foglyot.] |
| 18 | And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas: | De felkiálta az egész sokaság, mondván: Vidd el ezt, és bocsásd el nékünk Barabbást! |
| 19 | (Who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.) | Ki a városban lett valami lázadásért és gyilkosságért vettetett a tömlöczbe. |
| 20 | Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them. | Pilátus azért ismét felszólala, el akarván bocsátani Jézust; |
| 21 | But they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him. | De azok ellene kiáltának, mondván: Feszítsd meg! Feszítsd meg õt! |
| 22 | And he said to them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him; I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. | Õ pedig harmadszor [is] monda nékik: Mert mi gonoszt tett ez? Semmi halálra való bûnt nem találtam õ benne; megfenyítvén azért õt, elbocsátom! |
| 23 | And they were urgent with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified: and the voices of them, and of the chief priests prevailed. | Azok pedig nagy fenszóval sürgeték, kérvén, hogy megfeszíttessék; és az õ szavok és a fõpapoké erõt vesz vala. |
| 24 | And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. | És Pilátus megítélé, hogy meglegyen, a mit kérnek vala. |
| 25 | And he released to them him that for sedition and murder had been cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will. | És elbocsátá nékik azt, a ki lázadásért és gyilkosságért vettetett a tömlöczbe, a kit kértek vala; Jézust pedig kiszolgáltatá az õ akaratuknak. |
| 26 mapa | And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. | Mikor azért elvivék õt, egy Czirénebeli Simont megragadván, ki a mezõrõl jöve, arra tevék a keresztfát, hogy vigye Jézus után. |
| 27 | And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, who also bewailed and lamented him. | Követé pedig õt a népnek és az asszonyoknak nagy sokasága, a kik gyászolák és siraták õt. |
| 28 mapa | But Jesus turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. | Jézus pedig hozzájok fordulván, monda: Jeruzsálem leányai, ne sírjatok én rajtam, hanem ti magatokon sírjatok, és a ti magzataitokon. |
| 29 | For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nourished infants. | Mert ímé jõnek napok, melyeken ezt mondják: Boldogok a meddõk, és a mely méhek nem szültek, és az emlõk, melyek nem szoptattak! |
| 30 | Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. | Akkor kezdik mondani a hegyeknek: Essetek mi reánk; és a halmoknak: Borítsatok el minket! |
| 31 | For if they do these things in a green tree, what will be done in the dry? | Mert ha a zöldelõ fán ezt mívelik, mi esik a száraz [fán?] |
| 32 | And two others, who were malefactors, were led with him to be put to death. | Vivének pedig két másikat is, [két ]gonosztevõt õ vele, hogy megölessenek. |
| 33 mapa | And when they had come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors; one on the right hand, and the other on the left. | Mikor pedig elmenének a helyre, mely Koponya [helyének] mondatik, ott megfeszíték õt és a gonosztevõket, egyiket jobbkéz felõl, a másikat balkéz felõl. |
| 34 | Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. | Jézus pedig monda: Atyám! bocsásd meg nékik; mert nem tudják mit cselekesznek. Elosztván pedig az õ ruháit, vetének reájok sorsot. |
| 35 | And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he is Christ the chosen of God. | És a nép megálla nézni. Csúfolák pedig õt a fõemberek is azokkal egybe, mondván: Egyebeket megtartott, tartsa meg magát, ha õ a Krisztus, az Istennek ama választottja. |
| 36 | And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, | Csúfolák pedig õt a vitézek is, odajárulván és eczettel kínálván õt. |
| 37 | And saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself. | És ezt mondván néki: Ha te vagy a zsidóknak ama Királya, szabadítsd meg magadat! |
| 38 | And a superscription also was written over him, in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. | Vala pedig egy felirat is fölébe írva görög, római és zsidó betûkkel: Ez a zsidóknak ama Királya. |
| 39 | And one of the malefactors, who were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou art Christ, save thyself and us. | A felfüggesztett gonosztevõk közül pedig az egyik szidalmazá õt, mondván: Ha te vagy a Krisztus, szabadítsd meg magadat, minket is! |
| 40 | But the other answering, rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? | Felelvén pedig a másik, megdorgálá õt, mondván: Az Istent sem féled-e te? Hiszen te ugyanazon ítélet alatt vagy! |
| 41 | And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. | És mi ugyan méltán; mert a mi cselekedetünknek méltó büntetését vesszük: ez pedig semmi méltatlan dolgot nem cselekedett. |
| 42 | And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. | És monda Jézusnak: Uram, emlékezzél meg én rólam, mikor eljõsz a te országodban! |
| 43 | And Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, This day shalt thou be with me in paradise. | És monda néki Jézus: Bizony mondom néked: Ma velem leszel a paradicsomban. |
| 44 | And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. | Vala pedig mintegy hat óra, és sötétség lõn az egész tartományban mind kilencz órakorig. |
| 45 | And the sun was darkened, and the vail of the temple was rent in the midst. | És meghomályosodék a nap, és a templom kárpitja középen ketté hasada. |
| 46 | And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he expired. | És kiáltván Jézus nagy szóval, monda: Atyám, a te kezeidbe [teszem le] az én lelkemet. És ezeket mondván, meghala. |
| 47 | Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. | Látván pedig a százados, a mi történt, dicsõíté az Istent, mondván: Bizony ez ember igaz vala. |
| 48 | And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned. | És az egész sokaság, mely e dolognak látására ment oda, látván azokat, a mik történtek, mellét verve megtére. |
| 49 mapa | And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off beholding these things. | Az õ ismerõsei pedig mind, és az asszonyok, a kik Galileából követék õt, távol állának, nézvén ezeket. |
| 50 mapa | And behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counselor: and he was a good man, and a just: | És ímé egy ember, kinek József vala neve, tanácsbeli, jó és igaz férfiú, |
| 51 | (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them) he was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews; who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. | Ki nem vala részes azoknak tanácsában és cselekedetében, Arimathiából, a zsidók városából való, ki maga is várja vala az Istennek országát; |
| 52 | This man went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. | Ez oda menvén Pilátushoz, elkéré a Jézus testét. |
| 53 | And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, in which man was never before laid. | És levévén azt, begöngyölé azt gyolcsba, és helyhezteté azt egy sziklába vágott sírboltba, melyben még senki sem feküdt. |
| 54 | And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. | És az a nap péntek vala, és szombat virrada rá. |
| 55 mapa | And the women also, who came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid. | Az [õt] követõ asszonyok is pedig, kik vele Galileából jöttek, megnézék a sírt, és hogy miképen helyeztetett el az õ teste. |
| 56 | And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment. | Visszatérvén pedig, készítének fûszerszámokat és keneteket. [ (Luke 23:57) És szombaton nyugovának a parancsolat szerint. ] |
