Mateus 14

1 At that time Herod the Tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, Abban az idõben hírét hallá Heródes negyedes fejedelem Jézusnak,
2 And said to his servants, This is John the Baptist; he hath risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him. És monda szolgáinak: Ez ama Keresztelõ János; õ támadt fel a halálból, és azért mûködnek benne az erõk.
3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. Mert Heródes elfogatta vala Jánost, és megkötöztetvén, tömlöczbe vetette vala Heródiásért, az õ testvérének, Fülöpnek feleségéért.
4 For John had said to him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. Mert ezt mondja vala néki János: Nem szabad néked õvele élned.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. De mikor meg akarta öletni, félt a sokaságtól, mert mint egy prófétát úgy tartják vala õt.
6 But when Herod's birth-day was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Hanem mikor a Heródes születése napját ünnepelék, tánczola a Heródiás leánya õ elõttük, és megtetszék Heródesnek;
7 Upon which he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask. Azért esküvéssel fogadá, hogy a mit kér, megadja néki.
8 And she, being before instructed by her mother, said, Give me here the head of John the Baptist in a dish. A leány pedig, anyja rábeszélésére, monda: Add ide nékem egy tálban a Keresztelõ János fejét.
9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the sake of the oath, and of them who sat with him at table, he commanded it to be given her. És megszomorodék a király, de esküjéért és a vendégek miatt parancsolá, hogy adják oda.
10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. És elküldvén, fejét véteté Jánosnak a tömlöczben.
11 And his head was brought in a dish, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. És elõhozák az õ fejét egy tálban, és adák a leánynak; az pedig vivé az õ anyjának.
12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. És elõjövén az õ tanítványai, elvivék a testet, és eltemeték azt; és elmenvén, megjelenték Jézusnak.
13 When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence in a boat, into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard of it, they followed him on foot out of the cities. És mikor ezt meghallotta Jézus, elméne onnét hajón egy puszta helyre egyedül. A sokaság pedig ezt hallva, gyalog követé õt a városokból.
14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion towards them, and he healed their sick. És kimenvén Jézus, láta nagy sokaságot, és megszáná õket, és azoknak betegeit meggyógyítá.
15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. Mikor pedig estveledék, hozzá menének az õ tanítványai, mondván: Puszta hely ez, és az idõ már elmúlt; bocsásd el a sokaságot, hogy menjenek el a falvakba és vegyenek magoknak eleséget.
16 But Jesus said to them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. Jézus pedig monda nékik: Nem szükség elmenniök; adjatok nékik ti enniök.
17 And they say to him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. Azok pedig mondának néki: Nincsen itt, csupán öt kenyerünk és két halunk.
18 He said, Bring them hither to me. Õ pedig monda: Hozzátok azokat ide hozzám.
19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. És mikor megparancsolá a sokaságnak, hogy üljenek le a fûre, vevé az öt kenyeret és két halat, és szemeit az égre emelvén, hálákat ada; és megszegvén a kenyereket, adá a tanítványoknak, a tanítványok pedig a sokaságnak.
20 And they all ate, and were satisfied: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. És mindnyájan evének, és megelégedének; és felszedék a maradék darabokat, tizenkét teli kosárral.
21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children. A kik pedig ettek vala, mintegy ötezeren valának férfiak, asszonyokon és gyermekeken kívül.
22 And immediately Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a boat, and to go before him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. És mindjárt kényszeríté Jézus az õ tanítványait, hogy szálljanak a hajóba és menjenek át elõre a túlsó partra, míg õ elbocsátja a sokaságot.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he ascended a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. És a mint elbocsátá a sokaságot, felméne a hegyre, magánosan imádkozni. Mikor pedig beestveledék, egyedül vala ott.
24 But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. A hajó pedig immár a tenger közepén vala, a haboktól háborgattatva; mivelhogy a szél szembe fújt vala.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. Az éjszaka negyedik részében pedig hozzájuk méne Jézus, a tengeren járván.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. És mikor látták a tanítványok, hogy õ a tengeren jára, megrémülének, mondván: Ez kísértet; és a félelem miatt kiáltozának.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. De Jézus azonnal szóla hozzájuk, mondván: Bízzatok; én vagyok, ne féljetek!
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it is thou, bid me come to thee on the water. Péter pedig felelvén néki, monda: Uram, ha te vagy, parancsolj, hogy hozzád mehessek a vizeken.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. Õ pedig monda: Jövel! És Péter kiszállván a hajóból, jár vala a vizeken, hogy Jézushoz menjen.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. De látva a nagy szelet, megrémüle; és a mikor kezd vala merülni, kiálta, mondván: Uram, tarts meg engem!
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said to him, O thou of little faith, Why didst thou doubt? Jézus pedig azonnal kinyújtván kezét, megragadá õt, és monda néki: Kicsinyhitû, miért kételkedél?
32 And when they had come into the boat, the wind ceased. És a mikor beléptek a hajóba, elállt a szél.
33 Then they that were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, In truth thou art the son of God. A hajóban levõk pedig hozzámenvén, leborulának elõtte, mondván: Bizony, Isten Fia vagy!
34 mapa And when they had gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. És általkelvén, eljutának Genezáret földére.
35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all the surrounding country, and brought to him all that were diseased; És mikor megismerték õt annak a helynek lakosai, szétküldének abba az egész környékbe, és minden beteget hozzá hozának;
36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were restored to health. És kérik vala õt, hogy csak az õ ruhájának peremét illethessék. És a kik illeték vala, mindnyájan meggyógyulának.
