1 mapa Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to dwell in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. És lõn azon napokban, a mikor a bírák bíráskodának, éhség lõn a földön. És elméne egy férfi a Júda Bethlehemébõl, hogy Moáb mezején tartózkodjék; õ meg a felesége, és a két fia.
2 mapa And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. A férfi neve Elimélek és felesége neve Naómi; két fiok neve pedig Mahlon és Kiljon; efrataiak, a Júda Bethlehemébõl valók. És eljutának Moáb mezejére, és ott valának.
3 And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. Meghala pedig Elimélek a Naómi férje, és marada õ és az õ két fia.
4 And they took to themselves wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelt there about ten years. A kik Moábita leányokat võnek feleségül; az egyiknek neve Orpa, és a másiknak neve Ruth. És ott lakozának közel tíz esztendeig.
5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left by her two sons and her husband. Meghalának õk is mind a ketten, Mahlon is, Kiljon is, és marada az asszony az õ két fia és férje nélkül.
6 mapa Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread. Felkele azért õ és az õ menyei, és õ visszatére Moáb mezejérõl; mert hallotta vala Moáb mezején, hogy meglátogatta az Úr az õ népét, hogy adjon nékik kenyeret.
7 Wherefore she went forth from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. És kiméne arról a helyrõl, a hol volt, és vele a két menye. És menének az úton, hogy visszatérjenek Júda földére,
8 And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. És monda Naómi az õ két menyének: Menjetek, térjetek vissza, kiki az õ anyjának házához. Cselekedjék az Úr irgalmasságot veletek, a miképen ti cselekedtetek a megholtakkal és én velem!
9 The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. Adja az Úr tinéktek, hogy találjatok nyugodalmat, kiki az õ férje házában. És megcsókolá õket; és õk nagy felszóval sírának.
10 And they said to her, surely we will return with thee to thy people. És mondák néki: Bizony mi veled együtt térünk a te népedhez!
11 And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? shall I bear more sons, that they may be your husbands? Naómi pedig mondá: Térjetek vissza leányaim! Miért jönnétek én velem? Hát ugyan vannak-é még fiak az én méhemben, a kik férjeitek lehetnének?
12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have a husband also to-night, and should also bear sons; Térjetek vissza leányaim! menjetek, mert én már vénebb vagyok, semhogy férjhez mehetnék. Még ha azt mondanám is, hogy van reménységem; még ha ez éjjel férjhez mennék is és szülnék is fiakat:
13 Would ye wait for them till they should be grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes, that the hand of the LORD has gone out against me. Ugyan megvárhatnátok-é õket, a míg felnõnek? Ugyan megtartóztatnátok-é magatokat miattok, hogy férjhez ne menjetek? Ne, édes leányaim! Mert nagyobb az én keserüségem, mint a tietek, mert engem talált az Úrnak keze.
14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again. And Orpah kissed her mother-in-law; but Ruth cleaved to her. Azok pedig nagy felszóval tovább sírának. És Orpa megcsókolá az õ napát; Ruth azonban ragaszkodék hozzá.
15 And she said, Behold, thy sister-in-law hath gone back to her people, and to her gods: return thou after thy sister-in-law. Õ pedig monda: Ímé a te sógorasszonyod visszatért az õ népéhez, és az õ isteneihez, térj vissza te is a te sógorasszonyod után.
16 And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Ruth pedig monda: Ne unszolj, hogy elhagyjalak, hogy visszaforduljak tõled. Mert a hova te mégy, oda megyek, és a hol te megszállsz, ott szállok meg; néped az én népem, és Istened az én Istenem.
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if aught but death shall part thee and me. A hol te meghalsz, ott halok meg, ott temessenek el engem is. Úgy tegyen velem az Úr akármit, hogy csak a halál választ el engem tõled.
18 When she saw that she was steadfastly resolved to go with her, then she left speaking to her. Mikor pedig látá, hogy erõsködik vele menni, nem szóla néki többet.
19 mapa So they two went until they came to Beth-lehem. And it came to pass, when they had come to Beth-lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? És menének mind a ketten, míglen Bethlehembe érkezének. És lõn, hogy mikor Bethlehembe érkezének, megmozdult az egész város miattok, és mondák: Nemde nem Naómi ez?
20 And she said to them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. És õ monda nékik: Ne hívjatok engem Naóminak, hívjatok inkább Márának, mert nagy keserûséggel illetett engem a Mindenható.
21 I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? Többed magammal mentem el, és elárvultan hozott vissza engemet az Úr; miért hívnátok hát engem Naóminak, holott az Úr ellenem fordult, és a Mindenható nyomorúsággal illetett engemet?
22 mapa So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab: and they came to Beth-lehem in the beginning of barley-harvest. Így tért vissza Naómi, és vele a Moábita Ruth, az õ menye, a ki hazatért Moáb mezejérõl. Megérkezének pedig Bethlehembe az árpaaratás kezdetén.
