12 no matter if that person is a Jew or a Gentile. There is only one Lord, and he is generous to everyone who asks for his help. 13 *All who call out to the Lord will be saved.

14 How can people have faith in the Lord and ask him to save them, if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear, unless someone tells them? 15 *And how can anyone tell them without being sent by the Lord? The Scriptures say it is a beautiful sight to see even the feet of someone coming to preach the good news. 16 *Yet not everyone has believed the message. For example, the prophet Isaiah asked, "Lord, has anyone believed what we said?"

17 No one can have faith without hearing the message about Christ.

2 I want to know only one thing. How were you given God’s Spirit? Was it by obeying the Law of Moses or by hearing about Christ and having faith in him?

13 Christ also brought you the truth, which is the good news about how you can be saved. You put your faith in Christ and were given the promised Holy Spirit to show you belong to God. 14 The Spirit also makes us sure we will be given what God has stored up for his people. Then we will be set free, and God will be honored and praised.

24 I tell you for certain that everyone who hears my message and has faith in the one who sent me has eternal life and will never be condemned. They have already gone from death to life.

25 I tell you for certain the time will come, and it is already here, when all of the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen to it will live!

44 No one can come to me, unless the Father who sent me makes them want to come. But if they do come, I will raise them to life on the last day. 45 *One of the prophets wrote, "God will teach all of them." And so everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him will come to me.

46 The only one who has seen the Father is the one who has come from him. No one else has ever seen the Father. 47 I tell you for certain that everyone who has faith in me has eternal life.

28 Jesus replied, "That’s true, but the people who are really blessed are the ones who hear and obey God’s message!"*

23 If you have ears, pay attention!

15 *Then he told them:

Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world.

14 *So God’s promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said,

"These people will listen

and listen,

but never understand.

They will look and look,

but never see.

15 All of them have

stubborn minds!

They refuse to listen;

they cover their eyes.

They cannot see or hear

or understand.

If they could,

they would turn to me,

and I would heal them."

16 *But God has blessed you, because your eyes can see and your ears can hear!

What Really Makes People Unclean

10 Jesus called the crowd together and said, "Pay attention and try to understand what I mean.

3 *Pay close attention!

Come to me and live.

I will promise you

the eternal love and loyalty

that I promised David.

9 *Then the Lord told me to go and speak this message to the people:

"You will listen and listen,

but never understand.

You will look and look,

but never see."

The Lord also said,

10 "Make these people stubborn!

Make them stop up

their ears,

cover their eyes,

and fail to understand.

Don’t let them turn to me

and be healed."

3 Be sure to pray that God will make a way for us to spread his message and explain the mystery about Christ, even though I am in jail for doing this.
