Na Bíblia, o amor ao próximo não é um sentimento espontâneo, mas a decisão prática de buscar o bem do outro com atitudes concretas. Esse mandamento resume toda a lei moral das Escrituras sobre a convivência humana: quem ama o semelhante cumpre as exigências da justiça de Deus.

A origem e o modelo do amor
O mandamento de amar não nasce do esforço humano nem da simpatia natural por quem nos agrada. O texto bíblico ensina que o amor vem de Deus e ganha forma visível na entrega de Jesus Cristo na cruz, servindo de padrão para a vida cristã.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God-The Father; and every one that loves is born of God-The Father, and knows God-The Father.
He that loves not knows not God-The Father; for God-The Father is love.(1 John 4:7,8)
This is my commandment, That you2f love one another, as I have loved you.(John 15:12)

O alcance do mandamento: até os inimigos
O ensino bíblico não permite escolher a quem amar. Jesus rompeu a lógica comum de favorecer apenas amigos e parentes ao ordenar o cuidado com quem se opõe ou persegue, transformando o amor em testemunho ativo de misericórdia.
Again Yeshua [God is Salvation] said to his disciples: "You have heard what was said to those of long ago that you shall love the one who loves you and hate the one who hates you".
"But I say to you, love your enemies, do good to the one who hates you and vexes you and pray for those who persecute you and oppress you",(Gosel 5:43,44)

Como o amor se manifesta no dia a dia
Nas cartas do Novo Testamento, o amor ao próximo deixa de ser uma ideia geral e ganha instruções práticas: paciência com as fraquezas alheias, hospitalidade com os desconhecidos, solidariedade com os que sofrem e perdão constante dentro da comunidade.
Put [a bow] on therefore, as the elect of God-The Father, holy and beloved, bowels (inward parts; affections) of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Moshiach [Messiah] forgave you, so also [do] you2f.
And above all these things [put on] charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
And let the peace of God-The Father rule in your hearts, to the which also you2f are called in one body; and be you2f thankful.(Colossians 3:12-15)
Let brotherly love continue.
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; [and] them which suffer (allow, to let, permit) adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.(Hebrews 13:1-3)
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.(1 Peter 4:8)
