8 but God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while* we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

7 For only rarely will someone die on behalf of a righteous person (for on behalf of a good person possibly someone might even dare to die), 8 but God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while* we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by his grace, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus,

35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will affliction or distress or persecution or hunger or lack of sufficient clothing or danger or the sword?

God’s Love for the World

16 For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

3 among whom also we all formerly lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the will* of the flesh and of the mind, and we were children of wrath* by nature, as also the rest of them were.

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, 5 and we being dead in trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),

"I have loved you with an everlasting love.

Therefore* I have drawn you with loyal love.

26 Give thanks to the God of heaven,

for his loyal love endures forever.

5 O Yahweh, your loyal love extends into the heavens,

your faithfulness unto the clouds.

17 The friend loves at all times*,

but a brother is born for adversity.

9 By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him.

10 In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation* for our sins.

19 We love, because he first loved us.

16 We have come to know love by this: that he* laid down his life on behalf of us, and we ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers.

4 Love is patient, love is kind, love is not jealous, it does not boast, it does not become conceited, 5 it does not behave dishonorably, it is not selfish*, it does not become angry, it does not keep a record of wrongs,

6 it does not rejoice at unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth, 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

The Sermon on the Mount: Love for Enemies

43 "You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’* and ‘Hate your enemy.’*44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, because he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not the tax collectors also do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing that is remarkable? Do not the Gentiles also do the same? 48 Therefore you be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.

27 "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

8 Above all, keep* your love for one another constant, because love covers a large number of sins.
