16 All Scripture is inspired by God  *,* and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.  *

20 Above all, you know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by the will of man;  * instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.  *

15 Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.  *

2 Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and teaching.

13 Until I come,  * give your attention to public reading, exhortation, and teaching.

12 For the word of God is living and effective  * and sharper than any double-edged sword,  * penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  *

35 Heaven and earth will pass away,*but my words will never pass away.*

4 He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."*,*

10 For just as rain and snow fall from heaven

and do not return there

without saturating the earth

and making it germinate and sprout,

and providing seed to sow

11 so my word that comes from my mouth

will not return to me empty,

but it will accomplish what I please

Messiah’s Jubilee

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is on me,  *

because the Lord has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor.  *

He has sent me to heal  * the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives

and freedom to the prisoners;  *

2 to proclaim the year of the  Lord’s favor,  *

and the day of our God’s vengeance;  *

to comfort  * all who mourn,

3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion;

to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

festive oil instead of mourning,  *

and splendid clothes instead of despair.  *

And they will be called righteous trees,

planted by the  Lord

to glorify him.  *

5 Every word of God is pure;  *,*

he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.  *

6 Don’t add to his words,  *

or he will rebuke you, and you will be proved a liar.  *

No Other Gospel

6 I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from him who called  * you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel —  7 not that there is another gospel,  * but there are some  * who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel  * from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you,  * a curse be on him!  *9 As we have said before, I now say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received,  * a curse be on him!

15 Also, regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him.  *16 He speaks about these things in all his letters. There are some things hard to understand in them. The untaught and unstable will twist them to their own destruction,  * as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.

4 For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction,  * so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures.

Israel’s Rejection of the Message

14 How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him?  * And how can they hear without a preacher?  *15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful*are the feet of those who bring good news.*,*16 But not all obeyed the gospel.  * For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?*,*17 So faith comes from what is heard,  * and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.  *,*

The Righteous Will Live by Faith

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel,  *,* because it is the power of God for salvation  * to everyone who believes, first to the Jew,  * and also to the Greek.  *17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith,  *,* just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.*,*,*

12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words  * taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.  *14 But the person without the Spirit  * does not receive what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated  * spiritually.

21 For since, in God’s wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of what is preached.

22 For the Jews ask for signs  * and the Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified,  * a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.  *24 Yet to those who are called,  * both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God,

17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel — not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross  * of Christ will not be emptied of its effect.

9 But you are a chosen race,*,*,*a royal priesthood,*,*a holy nation,*,*a people for his possession,*,*so that you may proclaim the praises*,*,* of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.  *
