O que é a carne na Bíblia e como vencê-la
Na teologia bíblica, a palavra carne quase sempre se refere à natureza humana inclinada ao pecado e hostil a Deus, e não apenas à matéria física do corpo. Trata-se da disposição egoísta herdada da queda, que busca satisfazer apetites e viver de maneira independente da vontade divina.
Vale notar a distinção: o corpo em si foi criado por Deus e é bom, mas a "carne", no sentido espiritual usado especialmente pelo apóstolo Paulo, representa o padrão decaído de pensamento e ação que resiste ao Espírito Santo.
O conflito entre a natureza humana e o Espírito
A Escritura descreve a vida humana fora de Cristo como dominada pelos desejos da carne. Esse estado não gera comunhão com o Criador, pois a mente controlada por essa inclinação é incapaz de agradar a Deus por esforço próprio. Em Romanos, Paulo detalha a luta interior onde o querer o bem não se traduz em prática sem o poder do Espírito.
"What’s born of the body is body, and what’s born of the Spirit is Spirit.(John 3:6)
The Spirit gives life; the physical body doesn’t do anything. The words I’ve told you are spirit and life!(John 6:63)
While we were controlled by old nature, our sinful desires (as revealed by the law) were at work within us and resulted in death.(Romans 7:5)
This is the principle I’ve discovered: if I want to do what’s good, evil is always there too. My inner self is delighted with God’s law, but I see a different law at work within me that is at war with the law my mind has decided to follow, making me a prisoner of the law of sin that is within me.(Romans 7:21-23)
So there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. What the law couldn’t do because it was powerless due to our sinful nature, God was able to do! By sending his own Son in human form, God dealt with the whole problem of sin and destroyed sin’s power in our sinful human nature. In this way we could fulfill the good requirements of the law by following the Spirit and not our sinful nature.(Romans 8:1-4)
Those who follow their sinful nature are preoccupied with sinful things, but those who follow the Spirit concentrate on spiritual things. The sinful human mind results in death, but having the mind led by the Spirit results in life and peace. The sinful human mind is hostile to God because it refuses to obey the law of God—in fact it never can, and those who follow their sinful nature can never please God.(Romans 8:5-8)
But you’re not following your sinful nature, but the Spirit—if it’s true that the Spirit of God is living in you. For those that don’t have the Spirit of Christ in them don’t belong to him.(Romans 8:9)
For if you live under the control of your sinful nature, you’re going to die. But if you follow the way of the Spirit, putting to death the evil things you do, then you will live. All those who are led by the Spirit of God are God’s children.(Romans 8:13,14)
Como a Escritura ensina a vencer a carne
A superação das inclinações da carne não acontece por mero controle moral, mas pelo domínio do Espírito na vida do crente. O Novo Testamento ensina que quem pertence a Cristo considera essa velha natureza crucificada, escolhendo não usar a liberdade cristã como desculpa para o egoísmo, mas como serviço e vigilância diária.
Stay awake and pray, so that you don’t fall into temptation. Yes, the spirit is willing, but the body is weak."(Matthew 26:41)
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to freedom! Just don’t use your freedom as an excuse to indulge your sinful human nature—instead serve one another in love.(Galatians 5:13)
My advice is to walk by the Spirit. Don’t satisfy the desires of your sinful human nature.(Galatians 5:16)
It’s clear what the sinful human nature produces: sexual immorality, indecency, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, anger, selfish ambition, dissension, heresy, envy, drunkenness, feasting, and similar things. As I warned you before so I warn you again: nobody who behaves like this will inherit the kingdom of God.(Galatians 5:19-21)
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed to the cross their sinful human nature, together with all their sinful passions and desires.(Galatians 5:24)
If you sow according to your sinful human nature, from that nature you’ll reap self-destruction. But if you sow according to the Spirit, from the Spirit you’ll reap eternal life.(Galatians 6:8)
You were "circumcised" in him but not by human hands. You have been set free from sinful human nature by the "circumcision" Christ performed.(Colossians 2:11)
However, I tell you this, my brothers and sisters: our present bodies cannot inherit the kingdom of God. These decaying bodies cannot inherit what lasts forever.(1 Corinthians 15:50)
For all the things of this world—our sinful desires, wanting everything we see, boasting about what we’ve accomplished in life— these things don’t come from the Father but from the world.(1 John 2:16)
