One day in your temple
is better than a thousand
anywhere else.
I would rather serve
in your house,
than live in the homes
of the wicked.
I ask only one thing, Lord:
Let me live in your house
every day of my life
to see how wonderful you are
and to pray in your temple.
You bless your chosen ones,
and you invite them
to live near you
in your temple.
We will enjoy your house,
the sacred temple.
It made me glad when they said,
"Let’s go to the house
of the Lord!"
Your kindness and love
will always be with me
each day of my life,
and I will live forever
in your house, Lord.
But I am like an olive tree
growing in God’s house,
and I can count on his love
forever and ever.
My love for your house
burns in me like a fire,
and when others insult you,
they insulted me as well.
O templo
Minha casa será chamada casa de oração. O zelo da tua casa me consumiu. O verdadeiro templo é o corpo do cristão.
Jesus went into the temple and chased out everyone who was selling or buying. He turned over the tables of the moneychangers and the benches of the ones who were selling doves. He told them, "The Scriptures say, ‘My house should be called a place of worship.’ But you have turned it into a place where robbers hide."
Not long before the Jewish festival of Passover, Jesus went to Jerusalem. There he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves in the temple. He also saw moneychangers sitting at their tables. So he took some rope and made a whip. Then he chased everyone out of the temple, together with their sheep and cattle. He turned over the tables of the moneychangers and scattered their coins.
Jesus said to the people who had been selling doves, "Get those doves out of here! Don’t make my Father’s house a marketplace."
The disciples then remembered that the Scriptures say, "My love for your house burns in me like a fire."
You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own.
so if I am delayed, you will know how everyone who belongs to God’s family ought to behave. After all, the church of the living God is the strong foundation of truth.
But Christ is the Son in charge of God’s people. And we are those people, if we keep on being brave and don’t lose hope.
The tent where our ancestors worshiped God was with them in the desert. This was the same tent that God had commanded Moses to make. And it was made like the model that Moses had seen. Later it was given to our ancestors, and they took it with them when they went with Joshua. They carried the tent along as they took over the land from those people that God had chased out for them. Our ancestors used this tent until the time of King David. He pleased God and asked him if he could build a house of worship for the people of Israel. And it was finally King Solomon who built a house for God.
But the Most High God doesn’t live in houses made by humans. It is just as the prophet said, when he spoke for the Lord,
"Heaven is my throne,
and the earth
is my footstool.
What kind of house
will you build for me?
In what place will I rest?
I have made everything."
The Lord said:
Heaven is my throne;
the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house
could you build for me?
In what place will I rest?
I have made everything;
that’s how it all came to be.
I, the Lord, have spoken.
The people I treasure most
are the humble—
they depend only on me
and tremble when I speak.
Jacob woke up suddenly and thought, "The Lord is in this place, and I didn’t even know it." Then Jacob became frightened and said, "What a frightening place! It must be the house of God and the gateway to heaven."
