10 Because better is a day in your courtyards

than a thousand elsewhere.

I would rather be at the threshold of the house* of my God

than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

4 One thing I have asked from Yahweh;

it I will seek:

that I may dwell in the house* of Yahweh all the days of my life,

to behold the beauty of Yahweh,

and to consider* his temple.

4 Blessed is one whom you choose and bring near,

that he may abide in your courts.

We will be satisfied with the goodness of your house,

your holy temple.

Jerusalem the Site of God’s Presence

1 I rejoiced in those who said to me,

"Let us go to the house* of Yahweh."

6 Surely goodness and loyal love will pursue me

all the days of my life,

and I will stay* in the house* of Yahweh

for a very long time.*

8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing

in the house* of God.

I trust the loyal love of God forever and ever.

9 because the zeal for your house* has consumed me,

and the reproaches of those reproaching you have fallen on me.

The Cleansing of the Temple

12 And Jesus entered the temple courts* and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves. 13 And he said to them, "It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’* but you have made it a cave of robbers!"

13 And the Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

The Cleansing of the Temple

14 And he found in the temple courts* those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated. 15 And he made a whip of cords and* drove them* all out of the temple courts,* both the sheep and the oxen, and he poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their* tables. 16 And to the ones selling the doves he said, "Take these things away from here! Do not make my Father’s house a marketplace!"*17 His disciples remembered that it is written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."*

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

15 But if I am delayed, I am writing* in order that you may know how one must conduct oneself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and mainstay* of the truth.

6 but Christ was faithful* as a son over his house, whose house we are, if* we hold fast to our confidence and the hope we can be proud of.

44 The tabernacle of the testimony belonged* to our fathers in the wilderness, just as the one who spoke to Moses directed him* to make it according to the design that he had seen, 45 and which, after* receiving it* in turn, our fathers brought in with Joshua when they dispossessed the* nations that God drove out from the presence of our fathers, until the days of David, 46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.*47 But Solomon built a house for him. 48 But the Most High does not live in houses* made by human hands, just as the prophet says,

49 ‘Heaven is my throne

and earth is the footstool for my feet.

What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord,

or what is the place of my rest?

50 Did not my hand make all these things?’*

Proper Worship

1 Thus says Yahweh:

"Heaven is my throne,

and the earth is the footstool for my feet.

Where is this house that you would build for me?

And where is this resting place for me?

2 And my hand has made all these things,

and all these came to be,"*

declares* Yahweh, "but* I look to this one:

to the humble and the contrite of spirit

and the one frightened at my word.

16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely Yahweh is indeed* in this place and I did not know!" 17 Then he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is nothing else than the house of God,* and this is the gate of heaven!"
