Walking by the Spirit

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

13 For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.

Carry One Another’s Burdens

1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

41 "Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.*Or from evil; BYZ and TR include For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.’

8 Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

16 For all that is in the world — the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not from the Father but from the world.

17 The world is passing away, along with its desires; but whoever does the will of God remains forever.

5 Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.

Job’s Final Appeal

1 "I have made a covenant with my eyes.

How then could I gaze with desire at a virgin?

28 Can a man walk on hot coals

without scorching his feet?

26 All day long he covets more,

but the righteous give without restraint.

5 When you glance at wealth, it disappears,

for it makes wings for itself

and flies like an eagle to the sky.

10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. By craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

12 "Everything is permissible for me," but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me," but I will not be mastered by anything.

2 But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.

13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.

As the Deer Pants for the Water

1 For the choirmaster. A Maskil of the sons of Korah.*

As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul longs after You, O God.

8 Yes, we wait for You, O LORD;

we walk in the path of Your judgments.

Your name and renown

are the desire of our souls.

4 Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

2 You crave what you do not have; you kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask.

Good and Perfect Gifts

13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.

God’s Law Is Holy

7 What then shall we say? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have been mindful of sin if not for the law. For I would not have been aware of coveting if the law had not said, "Do not covet."*

4 Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.

21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
