O que significa dizer que Deus é amor
Dizer que "Deus é amor" significa que o amor não é apenas uma ação passageira ou um sentimento dele, mas a sua própria essência. A Bíblia não ensina que o amor é Deus — como se qualquer afeto humano definisse a divindade —, mas que Deus é amor: Ele é a origem, a medida e o padrão de todo amor verdadeiro.
Dear friends, let’s go on loving one another, for love comes from God. All those who love are born of God and know God. Those who don’t love don’t know God, for God is love.(1 John 4:7,8)
God lives in everyone who declares that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God. We have experienced and trusted in the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who live in love, live in God, and God lives in them.(1 John 4:15,16)
O amor bíblico não depende do merecimento de quem recebe, mas do caráter de quem dá. Por isso, a iniciativa parte sempre de Deus.

Como o amor de Deus se manifestou na história
O amor de Deus não ficou no campo das ideias nem em promessas abstratas: ele se tornou visível em uma pessoa e em um acontecimento histórico concreto. O ápice dessa revelação foi o envio de Jesus Cristo para resgatar a humanidade quando ela ainda não tinha nada a oferecer em troca.
This is love! It’s not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and he sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven.(1 John 4:10)
For God loved the world, and this is how: he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who trusts in him shouldn’t die, but have eternal life.(John 3:16)
But God demonstrates his love for us in that Christ died for us while we were still sinners.(Romans 5:8)
But God in his generous mercy, because of the amazing love he had for us even while we were dead in our sins, has made us alive together with Christ. Trusting in him has saved you!(Ephesians 2:4,5)
A fidelidade inabalável do amor de Deus
Em toda a Escritura, o amor de Deus se revela como leal e constante. No Antigo Testamento, essa fidelidade à aliança sustenta o povo mesmo em tempos de fraqueza, oferecendo perdão, refúgio e comunhão para quem o busca.
But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to become angry, full of trustworthy love and faithfulness.(Psalms 86:15)
God, how priceless is your trustworthy love! Everyone can find protection under the shelter of your wings.(Psalms 36:7)
Your trustworthy love is better than life itself; I will praise you.(Psalms 63:3)
Thank the Lord, because he is good! For his trustworthy love lasts forever.(Psalms 136:1)
Who is a God like you who forgives sin and passes over the rebellion of those who are left of his special people? You do not remain angry forever because you delight in showing faithful love.(Micah 7:18)
Finally, brothers and sisters, I say goodbye. Continue to improve spiritually. Encourage one another. Be in agreement. Live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.(2 Corinthians 13:11)
