O pai que educa
Instrui a criança no caminho em que deve andar. O pai justo educa com amor, firmeza e o exemplo de uma vida íntegra.
Train the child concerning his way;
even when he is old, he will not stray from it.
He who withholds his rod hates his child,
but he who loves him gives him discipline.
He who walks in his integrity is righteous;
happy are his children who follow him.
The father of the righteous will surely rejoice;
he who bears a wise person will be happy with him.
In the fear of Yahweh, there is confidence of strength,
and for his children, there will be refuge.
Honra e alegria
Honra a teu pai e tua mãe. Os filhos são herança do Senhor, e a família que serve a Deus junta é inabalável.
"Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.
Look, children are the heritage of Yahweh;
the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
so are the children of one’s youth.
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.
They shall not be put to shame
when they speak with enemies at the gate.
But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh."
Concluding Exhortations
Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act courageously, be strong.
And he set out and came to his own father. But while he was still a long way away, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And his son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight! I am no longer worthy to be called your son!’ But his father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet! And bring the fattened calf—kill it and let us eat and celebrate,
