A Bíblia não trata o endividamento como pecado em si, mas adverte que a dívida tira a tranquilidade e compromete a liberdade de quem toma emprestado. O conselho das Escrituras é claro: evitar dívidas desnecessárias, pagar pontualmente tudo o que se deve e planejar a vida financeira com prudência.
The rich rules over the poor,
And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.(Proverbs 22:7)
For the Lord your God will have blessed you just as He has promised you, and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; and you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.(Deuteronomy 15:6)
