O que a Bíblia ensina sobre domínio próprio

Domínio próprio é a capacidade dada por Deus de governar a própria vontade, reações e desejos em vez de ser governado por eles. Não se trata de repressão ou simples força de vontade, mas de um fruto do Espírito que protege a vida como os muros de uma cidade antiga.

O autocontrole como fruto do Espírito

But the fruit of the Spirit [Ruach] is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, self-control: against such there is no law.(Galatians 5:22,23)

Mostra que o domínio próprio não nasce de esforço puramente humano, mas é o resultado de uma vida guiada pelo Espírito de Deus.

For God-The Father has not given us the Spirit [Ruach] of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.(2 Timothy 1:7)

Devolve a calma e a clareza para não agir pelo medo nem pela pressa nas horas de pressão.

For the grace of God-The Father that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Looking for that Blessed (Favored by God; happy; prosperous) hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God-The Father and our Saviour Yeshua [God is Salvation] Moshiach [Messiah];(Titus 2:11-13)

Lembra que a graça de Deus não apenas perdoa, mas reeduca os desejos para que você saiba dizer não ao que destrói.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue (power); and to virtue (power) knowledge;

And to knowledge self-control; and to self-control patience; and to patience godliness;

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.(2 Peter 1:5-7)

Mostra que a fé amadurece quando aprende a colocar freios saudáveis na própria conduta diária.

Como governar emoções, palavras e impulsos

[He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.(Mishlei - Proverbs 16:32)

Revela o valor da paciência: controlar o próprio temperamento exige mais força real do que vencer uma batalha externa.

He that [has] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.(Mishlei - Proverbs 25:28)

Alerta para o perigo de viver sem limites, deixando o coração exposto e vulnerável a qualquer invasão.

Ajuda a respirar fundo e conter o impulso antes que a raiva destrua o que levou tempo para ser construído.

Dá discernimento para guardar o silêncio nos momentos tensos e evitar o arrependimento de falar demais.

Know you2f not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that you2f may obtain.

And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beats the air:

But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.(1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

Desperta a firmeza de quem sabe onde quer chegar e por isso renuncia ao que atrapalha a caminhada.

There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God-The Father [is] faithful, who will not suffer (allow, to let, permit) you to be tried or tested above that you2f are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you2f may be able to bear [it].(1 Corinthians 10:13)

Traz alívio no meio da tentação ao garantir que Deus não permite provação maior do que a força que Ele mesmo concede para resistir.

But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.(1 Corinthians 7:9)

Trata com honestidade as necessidades humanas e aponta para a sabedoria prática de viver em equilíbrio.

Sobriedade e vigilância diária

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.(1 Peter 5:8,9)

Mantém o alerta aceso para não baixar a guarda diante de distrações que desviam os passos.

But the end of all things is at hand: be you2f therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.(1 Peter 4:7)

Restaura a lucidez necessária para manter a cabeça no lugar e perseverar em oração.

Forasmuch then as Moshiach [Messiah] has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;

That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God-The Father.

For the time past of [our] life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Goyim [Gentiles], when we walked in lasciviousness (being lustful, loose or lewd; promoting lustful desires in others), lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings (drinking, gluttony; rich partying), and abominable idolatries:

Wherein they think it strange that you2f run not with [them] to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]:

Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.(1 Peter 4:1-5)

Dá coragem para romper com velhos hábitos prejudiciais e alinhar os passos à vontade divina.

That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

Not in the lust of concupiscence (strong lust; passion), even as the Goyim [Gentiles] which know not God-The Father:(1 Thessalonians 4:4,5)

Ensina a cuidar do próprio corpo com honra, domínio e respeito, sem se render aos impulsos do momento.
