Do that in order that you and your children will live for a long time in the land that Yahweh promised to our ancestors that he would give to them. That land will belong to you and your descendants as long as there is a sky above the earth.

If children are punished/spanked and reproved/warned,

they do things that cause their mothers to be ashamed of them.

Do not refuse to discipline your children;

and it may save them from going to the place where dead people are.
Discipline your children while they are young, while you still hope that they will learn to behave as they should;
if you do not discipline them, you are helping them to destroy themselves.
Since our sufferings are to discipline us, if we have not experienced God’s discipline we are not his true children. We should accept God’s discipline, because it is always to help us.
It is in order that God may discipline you that he requires you to endure the disagreeable things that happen to you. When God disciplines you he is treating you as a father treats his children. All fathers [RHQ] discipline their children [LIT].
Children, obey your parents in every circumstance; parents, do not over-correct your children.

My friends, listen to what I am going to teach you;

I am going to give you some sayings that wise people have said.
