16 *All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that *the man of God* may be complete, *equipped *for every good work.

24 *"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like *a wise man who built his house on the rock.

16 Let *the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, *singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, *with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

4 For *whatever was written in former days was written for our *instruction, that through endurance and through *the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

1 *The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

2 To know wisdom and instruction,

to understand words of insight,

3 to receive instruction in wise dealing,

in *righteousness, justice, and equity;

4 to give prudence to *the simple,

knowledge and *discretion to the youth—

5 Let the wise hear and *increase in learning,

and the one who understands obtain guidance,

6 to understand a proverb and a saying,

*the words of the wise and their *riddles.

7 *The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;

fools despise wisdom and instruction.

5 You *shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And *these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 *You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

8 *Hear, my son, your father’s instruction,

and forsake not your mother’s teaching,

9 for they are *a graceful garland for your head

and *pendants for your neck.

20 *My son, keep your father’s commandment,

*and forsake not your mother’s teaching.

21 *Bind them on your heart always;

*tie them around your neck.

22 *When you walk, they* will lead you;

*when you lie down, they will *watch over you;

and when you awake, they will talk with you.

23 For the commandment is *a lamp and the teaching a light,

and the *reproofs of discipline are the way of life,

5 *Get wisdom; get *insight;

do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.

6 Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;

*love her, and she will guard you.

7 *The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,

and whatever you get, get *insight.

8 Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;

she will *honor you *if you embrace her.

13 *Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;

guard her, for she is your *life.

14 *Do not enter the path of the wicked,

and do not walk in the way of the evil.

23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,

for *from it flow *the springs of life.

24 Put away from you *crooked speech,

and put *devious talk far from you.

25 *Let your eyes look directly forward,

and your gaze be straight before you.

26 *Ponder* the path of your feet;

*then all your ways will be sure.

27 *Do not swerve to the right or to the left;

turn your foot away from evil.

14 The teaching of the wise is *a fountain of life,

that one may *turn away from the snares of death.

10 *The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

and *the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

1 *Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;

incline your ears to the words of my mouth!

2 *I will open my mouth *in a parable;

I will utter dark sayings from of old,

3 things that we have heard and known,

that our *fathers have told us.

4 We will not *hide them from their children,

but *tell to the coming generation

the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,

and *the wonders that he has done.

10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

17 Let the elders *who rule well be considered worthy of *double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, *"You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain," and, *"The laborer deserves his wages."

16 But *avoid *irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are *Hymenaeus and Philetus,

9 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, *does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching *has both the Father and the Son.

14 About the middle of the feast Jesus went up *into the temple and began teaching. 15 The Jews therefore *marveled, saying, "How is it that this man has learning,* when he has never studied?" 16 So Jesus answered them, *"My teaching is not mine, but his *who sent me.17 *If anyone’s will is to do God’s*will, *he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I *am speaking on my own authority.18 The one who speaks on his own authority *seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.
