16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.

The House on the Rock

24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

4 For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.

The Beginning of Knowledge

1 These are the proverbs of Solomon son of David,

king of Israel,

2 for gaining wisdom and discipline,

for comprehending words of insight,

3 and for receiving instruction in wise living

and in righteousness, justice, and equity.

4 To impart prudence to the simple*

and knowledge and discretion to the young,

5 let the wise listen and gain instruction,

and the discerning acquire wise counsel

6 by understanding the proverbs and parables,

the sayings and riddles of the wise.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,

but fools* despise wisdom and discipline.

5 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.*

6 These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

The Enticement of Sin

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction,

and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.

9 For they are a garland of grace on your head

and a pendant around your neck.

Warnings against Adultery

20 My son, keep your father’s commandment,

and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

21 Bind them always upon your heart;

tie them around your neck.

22 When you walk, they will guide you;

when you lie down, they will watch over you;

when you awake, they will speak to you.

23 For this commandment is a lamp, this teaching is a light,

and the reproofs of discipline are the way to life,

5 Get wisdom, get understanding;

do not forget my words or turn from them.

6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will preserve you;

love her, and she will guard you.

7 Wisdom is supreme; so acquire wisdom.

And whatever you may acquire,* gain understanding.

8 Prize her, and she will exalt you;

if you embrace her, she will honor you.

13 Hold on to instruction; do not let go.

Guard it, for it is your life.

14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked

or walk in the way of evildoers.

23 Guard your heart with all diligence,

for from it flow springs of life.

24 Put away deception from your mouth;

keep your lips from perverse speech.

25 Let your eyes look forward;

fix your gaze straight ahead.

26 Make a level path for your feet,*

and all your ways will be sure.

27 Do not swerve to the right or to the left;

turn your feet away from evil.

14 The teaching* of the wise is a fountain of life,

turning one from the snares of death.

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,

and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

I Will Open My Mouth in Parables

1 A Maskil* of Asaph.

Give ear, O my people, to my instruction;

listen to the words of my mouth.

2 I will open my mouth in parables;

I will utter things hidden from the beginning,*

3 that we have heard and known

and our fathers have relayed to us.

4 We will not hide them from their children

but will declare to the next generation

the praises of the LORD and His might

and the wonders He has performed.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

10 After that whole generation had also been gathered to their fathers, another generation rose up who did not know the LORD or the works that He had done for Israel.

Honoring Elders

17 Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,"* and, "The worker is worthy of his wages."*

16 But avoid irreverent, empty chatter, which will only lead to more ungodliness, 17 and the talk of such men will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

9 Anyone who runs ahead without remaining in the teaching of Christ does not have God. Whoever remains in His teaching has both the Father and the Son.

14 About halfway through the feast, Jesus went up to the temple courts* and began to teach. 15 The Jews were amazed and asked, "How did this man attain such learning without having studied?"

16 "My teaching is not My own," Jesus replied. "It comes from Him who sent Me. 17 If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own. 18 He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a man of truth; in Him there is no falsehood.
