31 But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength;

they will mount up with wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not faint.

18 Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you;

therefore He rises to show you compassion,

for the LORD is a just God.

Blessed are all who wait for Him.

The LORD is my light and my salvation—

whom shall I fear?

The LORD is the stronghold of my life—

whom shall I dread?

2 When the wicked came upon me to devour my flesh,

my enemies and foes stumbled and fell.

3 Though an army encamps around me,

my heart will not fear;

though a war breaks out against me,

I will keep my trust.

4 One thing I have asked of the LORD;

this is what I desire:

to dwell in the house of the LORD

all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the LORD

and seek Him in His temple.

5 For in the day of trouble

He will hide me in His shelter;

He will conceal me under the cover of His tent;

He will set me high upon a rock.

6 Then my head will be held high

above my enemies around me.

At His tabernacle I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy;

I will sing and make music to the LORD.

7 Hear, O LORD, my voice when I call;

be merciful and answer me.

8 My heart said, "Seek His face."

Your face, O LORD, I will seek.

9 Hide not Your face from me,

nor turn away Your servant in anger.

You have been my helper;

do not leave me or forsake me,

O God of my salvation.

10 Though my father and mother forsake me,

the LORD will receive me.

11 Teach me Your way, O LORD,

and lead me on a level path,

because of my oppressors.

12 Do not hand me over to the will of my foes,

for false witnesses rise up against me,

breathing out violence.

I waited patiently for the LORD;

He inclined to me and heard my cry.

2 He lifted me up from the pit of despair,

out of the miry clay;

He set my feet upon a rock,

and made my footsteps firm.

3 He put a new song in my mouth,

a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear

and put their trust in the LORD.

4 Blessed is the man

who has made the LORD his trust,

who has not turned to the proud,

nor to those who lapse into falsehood.*

5 Many, O LORD my God,

are the wonders You have done,

and the plans You have for us —

none can compare to You —

if I proclaim and declare them,

they are more than I can count.

6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,

but my ears You have opened.*

Burnt offerings and sin offerings

You did not require.

7 Then I said, "Here I am, I have come —

it is written about me in the scroll:

8 I delight to do Your will, O my God;*

Your law is within my heart."

9 I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly;

behold, I do not seal my lips,

as You, O LORD, do know.

10 I have not covered up Your righteousness in my heart;

I have declared Your faithfulness and salvation;

I have not concealed Your loving devotion and faithfulness

from the great assembly.

11 O LORD, do not withhold Your mercy from me;

Your loving devotion and faithfulness will always guard me.

12 For evils without number surround me;

my sins have overtaken me, so that I cannot see.

They are more than the hairs of my head,

and my heart has failed within me.

13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me;

hurry, O LORD, to help me.

14 May those who seek my life

be ashamed and confounded;

may those who wish me harm

be repelled and humiliated.

20 Our soul waits for the LORD;

He is our help and our shield.

21 For our hearts rejoice in Him,

since we trust in His holy name.

22 May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD,

as we put our hope in You.

5 I wait for the LORD; my soul does wait,

and in His word I put my hope.

6 My soul waits for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning—

more than watchmen wait for the morning.

5 Rest in God alone, O my soul,

for my hope comes from Him.

34 Wait for the LORD and keep His way,

and He will raise you up to inherit the land.

When the wicked are cut off,

you will see it.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways acknowledge Him,

and He will make your paths straight.

3 Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

11 being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have full endurance and patience, and joyfully

7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer awaits the precious fruit of the soil — how patient he is for the fall and spring rains.* 8 You, too, be patient and strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.

11 See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

22 Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.* 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,

"All flesh is like grass,

and all its glory like the flowers of the field;

the grass withers and the flowers fall,

25 but the word of the Lord stands forever."*

And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

9 The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.

1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take along any extra oil. 4 But the wise ones took oil in flasks along with their lamps. 5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

7 Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

9 ‘No,’ said the wise ones, ‘or there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 But while they were on their way to buy it, the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

11 Later the other virgins arrived and said, ‘Lord, lord, open the door for us!’

12 But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’

13 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.*
