Esperar no Senhor

31 But* those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength.

They shall go up with wings* like eagles;

they shall run and not grow weary;

they shall walk and not be faint.

Yahweh Will Show Mercy

18 Therefore Yahweh waits to be gracious to you,

and therefore he will rise up to show you mercy,

for Yahweh is a God of justice;

blessed are all those who wait for him.

14 Wait for Yahweh.

Be strong and let your heart show strength,

and wait for Yahweh.

13 Surely* I believe that I will see the goodness of Yahweh

in the land of the living.

A Declaration of Trust

1 Yahweh is my light and my salvation;

whom shall I fear?

Yahweh is the refuge of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When evildoers drew near against me to eat my flesh—

my adversaries and my enemies who drew near to me—

they themselves stumbled and fell.

3 Though an army encamp against me,

my heart will not fear.

Though war arise against me,

even in this I will remain confident.

4 One thing I have asked from Yahweh;

it I will seek:

that I may dwell in the house* of Yahweh all the days of my life,

to behold the beauty of Yahweh,

and to consider* his temple.

5 Because he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble.

He will conceal me in the hiding place of his tent.

He will set me high upon a rock.

6 And now my head will be high over my enemies round about me.

And I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy.

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to Yahweh.

7 Hear, O Yahweh, my voice when I call,

and be gracious to me and answer me.

8 On your behalf my heart says, "Seek my face."

Your face, O Yahweh, I do seek.

9 Do not hide your face from me;

do not turn your servant away in anger.

You have been my help; do not abandon nor forsake me,

O God of my salvation.

10 If my father or my mother forsake me,

then Yahweh will receive me.

11 Teach me, O Yahweh, your way,

and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.

12 Do not give me over to the desire of my enemies,

because false witnesses have arisen against me,

and each breathing out violence.*

13 Surely* I believe that I will see the goodness of Yahweh

in the land of the living.

14 Wait for Yahweh.

Be strong and let your heart show strength,

and wait for Yahweh.

God’s Faithfulness and Deliverance

1 I waited patiently for Yahweh,

And he inclined to me

and heard my cry for help.

2 And so he brought me up from the roaring pit,*

from the miry clay.

And he put my feet upon a rock;

he made my steps steady.

3 Then he put a new song in my mouth,

a praise to our God.

Many will see and fear,

and will trust Yahweh.

4 Blessed is the man who makes Yahweh his trust

and does not turn to the proud and to those who fall away to a lie.*

5 Many things, O Yahweh my God, you have done—

your wonderful deeds and your thoughts toward us.

There is none to compare with you.

If I tried to proclaim and tell of them,

they would be too numerous to count.

6 A sacrifice and offering you do not desire.

My ears you have opened.*

Burnt offering and sin offering you have not demanded.

7 Then I said, "Look, I come.

In the scroll of the book

it is written concerning me:

8 ‘I delight to do your will, O my God,

and your law is deep within me.’ "*

9 I have brought good tidings of righteousness in the great congregation.

Look, I have not shut my lips.

O Yahweh, you surely know that.*

10 Your righteousness I have not hidden in the midst of my heart.

I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation.

I have not concealed your loyal love or your faithfulness

from the great congregation.

11 As for you, O Yahweh, do not withhold your mercies from me.

Let your loyal love and your faithfulness

continually preserve me.

12 For evils without number have encompassed me.

My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see.

They are more than the hairs of my head,

and my heart fails me.

13 Be pleased, O Yahweh, to deliver me.

O Yahweh, hurry to help me.

14 Let them be shamed and abashed altogether

who seek to take away my life.*

Let them be repulsed and humiliated

who desire my harm.

20 Our soul waits for Yahweh;

he is our help and our shield.

21 For in him our heart rejoices

because in his holy name we trust.

22 Let your loyal love, O Yahweh, be upon us,

even as* we hope in you.

5 I await Yahweh; my soul awaits,

and I wait* for his word.

6 My soul waits for the Lord

more than watchmen for the morning.

Yes, more than watchmen for the morning.

5 Only for God wait in silence, O my soul,

because my hope is from him.

34 Wait for Yahweh and keep his way,

and he will exalt you to possess the land.

When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

5 Trust Yahweh* with all your heart;

do not lean toward your own understanding.

6 In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will straighten your paths.

3 And not only this, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we* know that affliction produces patient endurance, 4 and patient endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope,

11 enabled with all power, according to his glorious might, for all steadfastness and patience with joy,

Exhortation to Patience

7 Therefore be patient, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the soil, being patient concerning it until it receives the early and late rains. 8 You also be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the coming of the Lord is near.

11 Behold, we consider blessed those who have endured. You have heard about the patient endurance of Job, and you saw the outcome from the Lord, that the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another fervently from the heart,*23 because you* have been born again, not from perishable seed but imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For

"all flesh is like grass,

and all its glory like the flower of the grass.

The grass withers and the flower falls off,

25 but the word of the Lord endures forever*."*

And this is the word that has been proclaimed to you.

9 The Lord is not delaying the promise, as some consider slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he* does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1 "Then the kingdom of heaven may be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and* went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 For when* the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take olive oil with them. 4 But the wise ones took olive oil in flasks with their lamps. 5 And when* the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.*6 But in the middle of the night there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish ones said to the wise ones, ‘Give us some of your olive oil, because our lamps are going out!’ 9 But the wise ones answered saying, "Certainly there will never be enough for us and for you! Go instead to those who sell olive oil* and buy some* for yourselves.’ 10 But while* they had gone away to buy it* the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding celebration, and the door was shut. 11 And later the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open the door* for us!’ 12 But he answered and* said, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you!’ 13 Therefore be on the alert, because you do not know the day or the hour!
