31 Yet those who *wait for the Lord

Will gain new strength;

They will *mount up with wings like eagles,

They will run and not get tired,

They will walk and not become weary.

18 Therefore the Lord*longs to be gracious to you,

And therefore He *waits on high to have compassion on you.

For the Lord is a God of justice;

How blessed are all those who *long for Him.

13 I certainly believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;

Whom should I fear?

The Lord is the *defense of my life;

Whom should I dread?

2 When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh,

My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.

3 If an army encamps against me,

My heart will not fear;

If war arises against me,

In spite of this I am confident.

4 One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:

That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,

To behold the *beauty of the Lord

And to *meditate in His temple.

5 For on the day of trouble He will conceal me in His *tabernacle;

He will hide me in the secret place of His tent;

He will lift me up on a rock.

6 And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,

And I will offer sacrifices in His tent *with shouts of joy;

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

7 Hear, Lord, when I cry with my voice,

And be gracious to me and answer me.

8 When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You,

"I shall seek Your face, Lord."

9 Do not hide Your face from me,

Do not turn Your servant away in anger;

You have been my help;

Do not abandon me nor forsake me,

God of my salvation!

10 *For my father and my mother have forsaken me,

But the Lord will take me up.

11 Teach me Your way, Lord,

And lead me on a level path

Because of my enemies.

12 Do not turn me over to the *desire of my enemies,

For false witnesses have risen against me,

And the violent witness.

13 I certainly believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord

1 I waited *patiently for the Lord;

And He reached down to me and heard my cry.

2 He brought me up out of the pit of *destruction, out of the mud;

And He set my feet on a rock, making my footsteps firm.

3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;

Many will see and fear

And will trust in the Lord.

4 How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust,

And has not turned to the *proud, nor to those who become involved in falsehood.

5 Many, Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done,

And Your thoughts toward us;

There is no one to compare with You.

If I would declare and speak of them,

They would be too numerous to count.

6 You have not desired *sacrifice and meal offering;

You have *opened my ears;

You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.

7 Then I said, "Behold, I have come;

It is *written of me in the scroll of the book.

8 "I delight to do Your will, my God;

Your Law is within my *heart."

9 I have proclaimed good news of righteousness in the great congregation;

Behold, I will not restrain my lips,

Lord, You know.

10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;

I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation;

I have not concealed Your mercy and Your truth from the great congregation.

11 You, Lord, will not withhold Your compassion from me;

*Your mercy and Your truth will continually watch over me.

12 For evils beyond number have surrounded me;

My guilty deeds have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see;

They are more numerous than the hairs of my head,

And my heart has *failed me.

13 Be pleased, Lord, to rescue me;

Hurry, Lord, to help me.

14 May those be ashamed and humiliated together

Who seek my *life to destroy it;

May those be turned back and dishonored

Who delight *in my hurt.

20 Our soul waits for the Lord;

He is our help and our shield.

21 For our heart rejoices in Him,

Because we trust in His holy name.

22 Let Your favor, Lord, be upon us,

Just as we have waited for You.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

And I *wait for His word.

6 My soul waits in hope for the Lord

More than the watchmen for the morning;

Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.

5 My soul, wait in silence for God alone,

For my hope is from Him.

34 Wait for the Lord and keep His way,

And He will exalt you to inherit the land;

When the wicked are eliminated, you will see it.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart

And do not lean on your own understanding.

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He will make your paths straight.

3 And not only this, but *we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;

11 strengthened with all power, according to *His glorious might, *for the attaining of all perseverance and *patience; joyously

7 Therefore be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until *it gets the early and late rains. 8 You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

11 We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the *endurance of Job and have seen the *outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

22 Since you have purified your souls in obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from *the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,

"All flesh is like grass,

And all its glory is like the flower of grass.

The grass withers,

And the flower falls off,

25 But the word of the Lord endures forever."

And this is the word which was *preached to you.

9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.

1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.2 Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take extra oil with them;4 but the prudent ones took oil in flasks with their lamps.5 Now while the groom was delaying, they all became drowsy and began to sleep.6 But at midnight *there finally was a shout: ‘Behold, the groom! Come out to meet him.’7 Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.8 But the foolish virgins said to the prudent ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’9 However, the prudent ones answered, ‘No, there most certainly would not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’10 But while they were *on their way to buy the oil, the groom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut.11 Yet later, the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’13 Be on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour.
