11 Now these people were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, *for they received the word with *great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who *does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is *inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for *rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man or woman of God may be *fully capable, equipped for every good work.

13 Until I come, give your attention to the public*reading, to exhortation, and teaching.

Testimony of the Scripture

39 *You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is those very Scriptures that testify about Me;

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may *be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will *achieve success.

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet

And a light to my path.

97 How I love Your Law!

It is my meditation all the day.

98 Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies,

For they are ever *mine.

99 I have more insight than all my teachers,

For Your testimonies are my meditation.

9 How can a young man keep his way pure?

By keeping it according to Your word.

10 With all my heart I have sought You;

Do not let me wander from Your commandments.

11 I have treasured Your word in my heart,

So that I may not sin against You.

12 Blessed are You, Lord;

Teach me Your statutes.

13 With my lips I have told of

All the ordinances of Your mouth.

14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,

*As much as in all riches.

15 I will meditate on Your precepts

And *regard Your ways.

16 I shall *delight in Your statutes;

I will not forget Your word.

7 I will give thanks to You with uprightness of heart,

When I learn Your righteous judgments.

9 For on the first day of the first month he began to go up from Babylon; and on the first of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, because the good hand of his God was upon him. 10 For Ezra had *firmly resolved to study the Law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel.

5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. 8 You shall also tie them as a *sign to your *hand, and they shall be as *frontlets *on your forehead. 9 You shall also write them on the *doorposts of your house and on your gates.

18 "Now it shall come about, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this Law on a scroll *in the presence of the Levitical priests. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he will learn to fear the Lord his God, *by carefully following all the words of this Law and these statutes, 20 so that his heart will not be haughty toward his countrymen, and that he will not turn away from the commandment to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may *live long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel.

The Usefulness of Proverbs

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

2 To know wisdom and instruction,

To discern the sayings of understanding,

3 To receive instruction in wise behavior,

Righteousness, justice, and integrity;

4 To give prudence to the naive,

To the youth knowledge and discretion,

5 A wise person will hear and increase in learning,

And a person of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

6 To understand a proverb and a saying,

The words of the wise and their riddles.

The Rewards of Wisdom

1 My son, do not forget my *teaching,

But have your heart comply with my commandments;

2 For length of days and years of life

And peace they will add to you.

13 Take hold of instruction; do not let go.

Guard her, for she is your life.

23 For the commandment is a lamp and the *teaching is light;

And rebukes for discipline are the way of life

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Since you have rejected knowledge,

I also will reject you from being My priest.

Since you have forgotten the Law of your God,

I also will forget your children.

20 To the *Law and to the testimony! If they do not speak in accordance with this word, it is because they have no dawn.

24 Jesus said to them, "Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not *understand the Scriptures nor the power of God?

4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of *unscrupulous people and lose your own *firm commitment, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 *seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories *to follow.
