3 Look, children* are the heritage* of Yahweh;

the fruit of the womb is a reward.

4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

so are the children* of one’s youth.

5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.*

They shall not be put to shame

when they speak with enemies at the gate.

Blessed Is Everyone Who Fears Yahweh

1 Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh,

who walks in his ways.

2 You will indeed eat of the labor of your hands;

you will be happy and it will be well with you.

3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine

within* your house.

Your children* will be like olive shoots

about your table.

4 Look, for thus shall a man be blessed

who fears Yahweh.*

Blessed Is Everyone Who Fears Yahweh

1 Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh,

who walks in his ways.

12 that our sons may be like plants,

full grown in their youth,

our daughters like corner pillars,

carved in the style of a palace,

2 His descendants* will be mighty in the land;

the generation of the upright will be blessed.

28 And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of heaven,* and over every animal that moves upon the earth."

4 "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock.*

14 You shall be blessed more than all of the peoples; among you there shall not be sterility and bareness, even* among domestic animals.*

6 Train the child concerning his way;*

even when he is old, he will not stray from it.

15 Folly is bound up in the heart* of a boy;*

the rod of discipline will drive it* from him.

24 He who withholds his rod hates his child,

but he who loves him gives him* discipline.

15 As for a rod and reproof, they* will give wisdom,

but a neglected child is disgraced by his mother.

13 Do not withhold discipline from a child,

if you will beat him with the rod, he will not die.

The Father’s Wisdom

1 Children, listen to the instruction of a father,

and be attentive in order to know insight.

Proverbs of Solomon

1 The proverbs of Solomon:

A wise child makes a father glad,

but a foolish child grieves his mother.

6 And these words that I am commanding you today* shall be on* your heart.*7 And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up.

14 But when* Jesus saw it,* he was indignant, and said to them, "Let the young children come to me. Do not forbid them, for to such belongs* the kingdom of God.

11 Therefore if you, although you* are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?

52 And Jesus was advancing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with people.

13 As a father pities* his children,

so Yahweh pities* those who fear him.

1 See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that we should be called children of God, and we are! Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him.

24 Yahweh will bless you

and keep you;

25 Yahweh will make shine his face on you

and be gracious to you;

26 Yahweh will lift up his face upon you,

and he will give you peace.’

28 May God give you of the dew of heaven

and of the fatness of the earth,

and abundance of grain and new wine.

29 Let peoples serve you,

and nations bow down to you;

Be lord of your brothers,

and may the sons of your mother bow down to you.

Cursed be those cursing you,

and blessed be those blessing you."

3 For I will pour out water on a thirsty land

and streams on dry ground.

I will pour my spirit out on your descendants*

and my blessing on your offspring.

4 And they shall sprout among* the grass

like willows by a watercourse of water.

13 And all your children shall be pupils of Yahweh,

and the peace of your children shall be great.

5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

and before you came out from the womb I consecrated you;

I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

38 And they will be for me a people, and I will be for them God. 39 And I will give to them one heart and one way, to revere me forever,* for good to them, and to their children after them.

13 Indeed you created my inward parts;*

you wove me in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you, because I am fearfully

and wonderfully made.*

Wonderful are your works,

and my soul knows it well.

15 My frame* was not hidden from you,

when I was created secretly,*

and intricately woven

in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my embryo,*

and in your book they all were written—

days fashioned for me when there was not one of them.

10 On you I was cast from the womb.

From my mother’s belly you have been my God.

25 I was a youth, but I am now old;

yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken

or his children begging for* bread.

26 All the day he is gracious and lends,

and his children are a blessing.

4 We will not hide them from their children,*

telling the next generation the praises of Yahweh,

and his power and his wonders that he has done.

6 The crown of the elderly are grandchildren,*

and the glory of children is their fathers.

7 He who walks in his integrity is righteous;

happy are his children who follow him.

Children and Parents

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother" (which is the first* commandment with a promise), 3 "in order that it may be well with you, and you may live a long time* on the earth."*

4 And fathers, do not make your children angry, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord.

21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, so that they will not become discouraged.

12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.

7 Endure it for discipline. God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, in which all legitimate sons* have become participants, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must learn to show profound respect for their own household first, and to pay back recompense to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.

21 A woman, when she gives birth, experiences pain because her hour has come. But when her* child is born, she no longer remembers the affliction, on account of the joy that a human being has been born into the world.

39 And your little children, who you thought shall become plunder, and your sons, who do not today know good or bad, shall themselves* go there, and I will give it to them, and they shall take possession of it.
