10 For the love of money is a root  * of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith  * and pierced themselves with many griefs.

9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.

24 "No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.*

5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity,  * lust,  * evil desire, and greed,  * which is idolatry.  *

3 But sexual immorality  * and any impurity  * or greed  * should not even be heard of  * among you, as is proper for saints.

15 He then told them, "Watch out and be on guard*against all greed,*because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions."*

36 For what does it benefit*someone to gain*the whole world*and yet lose*his life?*

19 "Don’t store up for yourselves treasures*on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.*20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,*where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal.

4 Don’t wear yourself out to get rich;  *

because you know better, stop!

11 Wealth obtained by fraud will dwindle,  *

but whoever earns it through labor  * will multiply it.  *

10 The one who loves silver is never satisfied with silver, and whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with income. This too is futile.

15 As he came from his mother’s womb, so he will go again, naked as he came;  * he will take nothing for his efforts that he can carry in his hands.

26 He is filled with craving  * all day long,

but the righteous give and don’t hold back.  *

6 And for this reason you pay taxes, since the authorities are God’s servants, continually attending to these tasks.  *

36 Turn my heart to your decrees  *

and not to dishonest profit.  *
