João: o discípulo amado

João, conhecido como o “discípulo amado”, foi um dos doze apóstolos e um dos mais próximos de Jesus. Irmão de Tiago e filho de Zebedeu, ele trabalhava como pescador antes de ser chamado por Cristo. João é lembrado por sua profunda compreensão do amor e por ser um dos pilares da Igreja.
Ele é o autor do Evangelho segundo João, das cartas 1, 2 e 3 João e do livro do Apocalipse. Sua vida exemplifica amor a Deus e ao próximo, enquanto seus escritos estão repletos de ensinamentos sobre fé, amor e a eternidade.
A história de João
Desde jovem, João acompanhou de perto o ministério de Jesus, testemunhando momentos cruciais como a Transfiguração e a agonia no Getsêmani. Demonstrando uma fidelidade incomum, João permaneceu ao lado de Jesus durante a crucificação, onde recebeu uma missão especial: cuidar de Maria, mãe de Jesus. No evangelho, lemos:
While the soldiers were looking after themselves, Jesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son." Then to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.
Após a ressurreição, João continuou sua missão como líder da Igreja, pregando sobre o amor divino e o poder transformador do Evangelho. Ele viveu até uma idade avançada e, durante seu exílio na ilha de Patmos, recebeu as visões que compõem o livro do Apocalipse, uma das mais poderosas revelações sobre os planos de Deus para a humanidade.

1. João 13:23
The disciples looked around at one another, wondering who on earth he was talking about. One of the disciples, the one Jesus loved dearly, was reclining against him, his head on his shoulder. João é chamado de “discípulo amado” pela intimidade que tinha com Jesus, demonstrando uma relação de confiança, amor e sinceridade, que serve como exemplo de comunhão com Cristo.
2. João 19:26-27
While the soldiers were looking after themselves, Jesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. 3. Apocalipse 1:17-18
I, John, with you all the way in the trial and the Kingdom and the passion of patience in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of God’s Word, the witness of Jesus. It was Sunday and I was in the Spirit, praying. I heard a loud voice behind me, trumpet-clear and piercing: "Write what you see into a book. Send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea." I turned and saw the voice.
I saw a gold menorah
with seven branches,
And in the center, the Son of Man,
in a robe and gold breastplate,
hair a blizzard of white,
Eyes pouring fire-blaze,
both feet furnace-fired bronze,
His voice a roar,
right hand holding the Seven Stars,
His mouth a sharp-biting sword,
his face a blinding sun.
I saw this and fainted dead at his feet. His right hand pulled me upright, his voice reassured me:
"Don’t fear: I am First, I am Last, I’m Alive. I died, but I came to life, and my life is now forever. See these keys in my hand? They open and lock Death’s doors, they open and lock Hell’s gates. Now write down everything you see: things that are, things about to be. The Seven Stars you saw in my right hand and the seven-branched gold menorah—do you want to know what’s behind them? The Seven Stars are the Angels of the seven churches; the menorah’s seven branches are the seven churches."
