Honrar os pais
Honrar pai e mãe é mandamento de Deus com promessa de vida longa e feliz. A Bíblia ensina que respeitar, obedecer e cuidar dos pais é dever sagrado dos filhos.
O mandamento com promessa
Honra a teu pai e a tua mãe para que vá bem contigo e vivas muito tempo sobre a terra. É o primeiro mandamento com promessa.
2 "Honor your father and mother." This is a very important commandment with a promise:3 "So that it may go well for you, and that you may have a long life on the earth."
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.2 "Honor your father and mother." This is a very important commandment with a promise:3 "So that it may go well for you, and that you may have a long life on the earth."4 Fathers, do not make your children angry, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.
Obedecer e respeitar
Filhos, obedecei a vossos pais no Senhor. Ouvir a instrução do pai e não desprezar o ensino da mãe traz sabedoria.
3 But he answered them,"Why do you also disregard the commandment of God because of your tradition?4 For God said,‘Honor your father and your mother,’and ‘Whoever curses father or mother must certainly be put to death.’

Consequências da desonra
A Bíblia adverte severamente contra a desonra aos pais. Quem amaldiçoa ou agride os pais enfrenta consequências sérias.
1 You must realize, however, that in the last days difficult times will come.2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,3 unfeeling, uncooperative, slanderous, degenerate, brutal, hateful of what is good,
Cuidar dos pais
Quem não cuida dos seus, principalmente de sua família, negou a fé. Honrar os pais inclui respeitar os idosos.
4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to respect their own family by repaying their parents, for this is pleasing in God's sight.
8 If anyone does not take care of his own relatives, especially his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
