"Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t His mother’s name Mary, and aren’t His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Aren’t all His sisters with us as well? Where then did this man get all these things?"
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
While Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, His mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to Him.
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to summon Him, and a crowd was sitting around Him. "Look," He was told, "Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You."
But Jesus replied, "Who are My mother and My brothers?" Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother."
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him, but they were unable to reach Him because of the crowd.
Da incredulidade à fé
Os irmãos de Jesus não criam nele inicialmente. Mas após a ressurreição, estavam entre os discípulos em oração.
So Jesus’ brothers said to Him, "Leave here and go to Judea, so that Your disciples there may see the works You are doing. For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world." For even His own brothers did not believe in Him.
"Do not cling to Me," Jesus said, "for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and tell My brothers, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’"
With one accord they all continued in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother.
In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God, for whom and through whom all things exist, to make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. For both the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.
