Toda autoridade é instituída por Deus. O cristão é chamado a respeitar as leis, pagar tributos e honrar quem governa.
A Christian’s Duties to the State
Let everyone submit to the governing authorities, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval. For it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For it is God’s servant, an avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong. Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath but also because of your conscience. And for this reason you pay taxes, since the authorities are God’s servants, continually attending to these tasks. Pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor.
Love, Our Primary Duty
Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that when they slander you as evildoers, they will observe your good works and will glorify God on the day he visits.
Submit to every human authority because of the Lord, whether to the emperor as the supreme authority or to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do what is evil and to praise those who do what is good.
Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? "
Perceiving their malicious intent, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, hypocrites?Show me the coin used for the tax." They brought him a denarius. "Whose image and inscription is this? " he asked them.
"Caesar’s," they said to him.
Then he said to them, "Give, then, to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s."

Paying the Temple Tax

"From strangers," he said.
"Then the sons are free," Jesus told him. "But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin.Take it and give it to them for me and you."
Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you’re on the way with him to the court, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, and the judge tothe officer, and you will be thrown into prison.Truly I tell you, you will never get out of there until you have paid the last penny.
You will even be brought before governors and kings because of me, to bear witness to them and to the Gentiles.But when they hand you over, don’t worry about how or what you are to speak.For you will be given what to say at that hour,
The Birth of Jesus
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.
Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant.

"You would have no authority over me at all," Jesus answered him, "if it hadn’t been given you from above. This is why the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin."
