Língua
A língua tem poder de vida e de morte. A Bíblia compara a língua ao leme de um navio e à faísca que incendeia uma floresta. Dominar a língua é prova de maturidade espiritual.
O poder da língua
A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua. Quem a domina é varão perfeito, capaz de controlar todo o corpo.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love her will eat of her fruit.
For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect individual, able to hold in check his whole body also.
And if we put bits in the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we also guide their whole bodies. Behold also ships: although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot wishes. So also the tongue is a small member of the body and boasts great things. Behold how small a fire sets ablaze how great a forest! And the tongue is a fire! The world of unrighteousness, the tongue, is set among our members, defiling the whole body and setting on fire the course of human existence, being set on fire by hell.
For every species of animals and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, is being tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no human being is able to tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so! A spring does not pour forth from the same opening fresh and bitter water, does it?A fig tree is not able, my brothers, to produce olives, or a grapevine figs. Neither can a saltwater spring produce fresh water.

With patience a ruler may be persuaded,
and a soft tongue will break a bone.

but he who restrains his lips is prudent.

Quem guarda a boca e a língua guarda a sua alma de angústias. A religião sem controle da língua é vã.
If anyone thinks he is religious, although he does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
The Brevity of Human Life
I said, "I will guard my ways
that I may not sin with my tongue.
I will keep a muzzle over my mouth
as long as the wicked are before me."
Who is the man who desires life,
who loves many days in order to see good?
Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit.
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks justice.
The law of his God is in his heart.
His steps will not slip.
Then my tongue will proclaim your righteousness,
and your praise all day.
For there is not a word yet on my tongue,
but behold, O Yahweh, you know it completely.
"Deliver my life, O Yahweh, from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue."
May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips,
the tongue speaking great boasts—
those who say, "With our tongue we will prevail.
Our lips are on our side.
Who is master over us?"
Confuse, O Lord; divide their speech,
because I see violence and strife in the city.
Toda língua confessará
Ao nome de Jesus todo joelho se dobrará e toda língua confessará que Jesus Cristo é Senhor, para glória de Deus Pai.
Therefore also God exalted him
and graciously granted him the name above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth,
and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Love, the More Excellent Way
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a ringing brass gong or a clashing cymbal.
But I tell you that every worthless word that they speak, people will give an account for it on the day of judgment! For by your words you will be vindicated, and by your words you will be condemned."
Then Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower that humankind was building. And Yahweh said, "Behold, they are one people with one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. So now nothing that they intend to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand each other’s language."So Yahweh scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth, and they stopped building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, for there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth, and there Yahweh scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
