21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

2 For we all make many mistakes, and if any one makes no mistakes in what he says he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses that they may obey us, we guide their whole bodies.4 Look at the ships also; though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.5 So the tongue is a little member and boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire!6 And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is an unrighteous world among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the cycle of nature, and set on fire by hell.

7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by humankind,8 but no human being can tame the tongue--a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9 With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God.10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so.11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening fresh water and brackish?12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a grapevine figs? No more can salt water yield fresh.

15 With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.

18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

19 Truthful lips endure for ever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.

28 Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.

26 If any one thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this man's religion is vain.

12 Come, O sons, listen to me, I will teach you the fear of the LORD.13 What man is there who desires life, and covets many days, that he may enjoy good?

30 The righteous shall possess the land, and dwell upon it for ever.31 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.

28 Let those who desire my vindication shout for joy and be glad, and say evermore, "Great is the LORD, who delights in the welfare of his servant!" [ (Psalms 35:29) Then my tongue shall tell of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long. ]

4 Thou searchest out my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

3 Every one utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.4 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts,

9 I would haste to find me a shelter from the raging wind and tempest."

9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name,10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
