17 When the righteous cry [for help], the Lord hears

And rescues them from all their distress and troubles.

15 "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will rescue him and honor him.

2 I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress,

My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!"

3 For He will save you from the trap of the fowler,

And from the deadly pestilence.

20 God is to us a God of acts of salvation;

And to *God the Lord belong escapes from death [setting us free].

13 For You have rescued my soul from death,

Yes, and my feet from stumbling,

So that I may walk before God

In the light of life.

4 Rescue the weak and needy;

Rescue them from the hand of the wicked.

13 Be pleased, O Lord, to save me;

O Lord, make haste to help me.

6 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You [for forgiveness] in a time when You [are near and] may be found;

Surely when the great waters [of trial and distressing times] overflow they will not reach [the spirit in] him.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up!" [Job 13:15; Acts 4:19, 20]

18 "He rescued me from my strong enemy,

From those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.

14 But they took their stand in the midst of that plot and defended it, and killed the Philistines; and the Lord rescued them by a great victory. [2 Sam 23:9, 10]

23 If you harm or oppress them in any way, and they cry at all to Me [for help], I will most certainly hear their cry;

13 "Even from eternity I am He,

And there is no one who can rescue from My hand;

I act, and who can revoke or reverse it?"

13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord [in prayer] will be saved." [Joel 2:32]

16 Now, why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins by calling on His name [for salvation].’

10 and to [look forward and confidently] wait for [the coming of] His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who [personally] rescues us from the coming wrath [and draws us to Himself, granting us all the privileges and rewards of a new life with Him].

14 and My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.

13 And I will do whatever you ask in My name [*as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son. [Ex 3:14] 14 If you ask Me anything in My name [as My representative], I will do it.

15 "If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.

Role of the Spirit

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another *Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever—

31 We know [according to your tradition] that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone fears God and does His will, He hears him.

8 Come close to God [with a contrite heart] and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; and purify your [unfaithful] hearts, you double-minded [people].

11 If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking Him.

26 "He will pray to God, and He shall be favorable to him,

So that he looks at His face with joy;

For God restores to man His righteousness [that is, his right standing with God—with its joys].
