13 As a mother comforts her son,

so I will comfort you,  *

and you will be comforted in Jerusalem.

3 Sons are indeed a heritage from the  Lord,

offspring, a reward.  *

Blessings for Those Who Fear God

1 How happy is everyone who fears the  Lord,

who walks in his ways!  *

2 You will surely eat

what your hands have worked for.  *

You will be happy,

and it will go well for you.  *

4 Love is patient,  * love is kind. Love does not envy,  * is not boastful, is not arrogant,  *5 is not rude, is not self-seeking,  * is not irritable,  * and does not keep a record of wrongs. 6 Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth.  *7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures  * all things.

Avoid the Path of the Violent

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction,

and don’t reject your mother’s teaching,  *

9 for they will be a garland  * of favor on your head

and pendants  * around your neck.  *

6 Start a youth out on his way;  *

even when he grows old he will not depart from it.

24 The one who will not use the rod hates his son,  *

but the one who loves him disciplines him diligently.  *

20 A wise son brings joy to his father,

but a foolish man despises his mother.  *

9 "Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves,  * so that you don’t forget  * the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind  * as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.  *

12 Honor your father and your mother  * so that you may have a long life in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

In Praise of a Wife of Noble Character

10 Who can find a wife of noble character?  *,*

She is far more precious than jewels.  *

25 Strength  * and honor are her clothing,  *

and she can laugh at the time to come.  *

26 Her mouth speaks wisdom,

and loving instruction  * is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the activities of her household  *

and is never idle.  *

28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;

her husband also praises her:

29 "Many women  * have done noble deeds,

but you surpass them all! "  *

30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting,  *

but a woman who fears the  Lord will be praised.
