Maria, mãe de Jesus, é honrada nas Escrituras como a mulher escolhida por Deus para trazer ao mundo o Salvador. Sua fé, humildade e obediência são exemplo para todos os cristãos.
A escolhida de Deus
O anjo Gabriel anunciou a Maria que ela seria mãe do Filho do Altíssimo. Ela respondeu com fé: 'Faça-se em mim segundo a tua palavra.'
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
O Magnificat
Maria cantou: 'Minha alma engrandece ao Senhor!' Seu cântico exalta a misericórdia, o poder e a fidelidade de Deus.
Mãe fiel até o fim
Maria acompanhou Jesus desde o nascimento até a cruz. Ela estava entre os discípulos no Pentecostes, fiel em oração.
There come then his brethren and his mother; and, standing without, they sent unto him, calling him. And a multitude was sitting about him; and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother, and thy brethren, and thy sisters without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother or my brethren? And looking round on them that sat round about him, he saith, Behold, my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
These all with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
