Maria
Gabriel Announces Jesus' Birth to Mary
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, "Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with yoʋ! Blessed are yoʋ among women!"
Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for yoʋ have found favor with God. And behold, yoʋ will conceive in yoʋr womb and give birth to a son, and yoʋ shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
The Birth of Jesus
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
O Magnificat
Maria cantou: 'Minha alma engrandece ao Senhor!' Seu cântico exalta a misericórdia, o poder e a fidelidade de Deus.
Mary’s Song of Praise
Then Mary said,
"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
because he has looked favorably on the humble state of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed,
because the Mighty One has done great things for me;
holy is his name.
From generation to generation his mercy is upon
those who fear him.
He has done a mighty deed with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
and exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
but the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering his mercy,
just as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever."
Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to register himself along with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. While they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to give birth, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. Then she wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, the child’s mother, "Behold, this child is appointed to bring about the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce yoʋr own soul as well."
When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Child, why have yoʋ treated us like this? Behold, yoʋr father and I have been looking for yoʋ in great distress." He said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?" But they did not understand what he said to them. Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.
Mãe fiel até o fim
Maria acompanhou Jesus desde o nascimento até a cruz. Ela estava entre os discípulos no Pentecostes, fiel em oração.
When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no wine." Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to yoʋ or to me? My hour has not yet come." But his mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, yoʋr son." Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, yoʋr mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
Jesus' Mother and Brothers
Then Jesus' brothers and mother came, and standing outside, they sent word to him and called for him. There was a crowd sitting around Jesus, and they said to him, "Behold, yoʋr 891 70.2% ¦ mother and yoʋr brothers 𝔐376 ANT ECM SBL TH TR WH 28.9%mother, yoʋr brothers, and yoʋr sisters are outside looking for yoʋ." But he answered them, "Who is my mother, X(92) ¦ and who are KX(59) ECM NA TH WHor my brothers?" And looking around in a circle at the people sitting there, he said, "Behold, these are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God is my brother and my sister and mother."
Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother’s name Mary, and are not his brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? Are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"
With one accord they were all devoting themselves to prayer and supplication, along with Jesus' brothers and several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus.
