O casamento é aliança sagrada entre marido e mulher, instituída por Deus desde o Éden. A Bíblia define papéis complementares fundados em amor, respeito e fidelidade mútua.
Instituição divina
Deus criou homem e mulher e os uniu em uma só carne. O casamento é projeto divino que reflete o amor de Cristo pela Igreja.
So God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female,
Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him."
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united with his wife, and they become one.
Jesus answered, "Haven’t you read the scripture that says that in the beginning the Creator made people male and female? And God said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and unite with his wife, and the two will become one.’ So they are no longer two, but one. No human being must separate, then, what God has joined together."
Didn’t God make you one body and spirit with her? What was his purpose in this? It was that you should have children who are truly God’s people. So make sure that none of you breaks his promise to his wife.

Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. He did this to dedicate the church to God by his word, after making it clean by washing it in water, in order to present the church to himself in all its beauty—pure and faultless, without spot or wrinkle or any other imperfection. Men ought to love their wives just as they love their own bodies. A man who loves his wife loves himself. ( None of us ever hate our own bodies. Instead, we feed them, and take care of them, just as Christ does the church;
Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband has authority over his wife just as Christ has authority over the church; and Christ is himself the Savior of the church, his body. And so wives must submit themselves completely to their husbands just as the church submits itself to Christ.
But it also applies to you: every husband must love his wife as himself, and every wife must respect her husband.

Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, for that is what you should do as Christians.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

In the same way you wives must submit yourselves to your husbands, so that if any of them do not believe God’s word, your conduct will win them over to believe. It will not be necessary for you to say a word, because they will see how pure and reverent your conduct is.
In the same way you husbands must live with your wives with the proper understanding that they are more delicate than you. Treat them with respect, because they also will receive, together with you, God’s gift of life. Do this so that nothing will interfere with your prayers.
Fidelidade e união
O casamento é honroso e deve ser preservado com fidelidade. O cordão de três dobras não se rompe facilmente.
Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it’s just too bad, because there is no one to help him. If it is cold, two can sleep together and stay warm, but how can you keep warm by yourself? Two people can resist an attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break.
The Capable Wife
How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels!
Her husband puts his confidence in her, and he will never be poor.
Find a wife and you find a good thing; it shows that the Lord is good to you.
A man can inherit a house and money from his parents, but only the Lord can give him a sensible wife.
A good wife is her husband’s pride and joy; but a wife who brings shame on her husband is like a cancer in his bones.
So be happy with your wife and find your joy with the woman you married— pretty and graceful as a deer. Let her charms keep you happy; let her surround you with her love.

For married people I have a command which is not my own but the Lord’s: a wife must not leave her husband; but if she does, she must remain single or else be reconciled to her husband; and a husband must not divorce his wife.
However, if the one who is not a believer wishes to leave the Christian partner, let it be so. In such cases the Christian partner, whether husband or wife, is free to act. God has called you to live in peace. How can you be sure, Christian wife, that you will not save your husband? Or how can you be sure, Christian husband, that you will not save your wife?
A married woman, for example, is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives; but if he dies, then she is free from the law that bound her to him.
