Materialismo

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world [wealth, fame, success], but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world [with all its pleasures], and forfeit his soul?

But those who [are not financially ethical and] crave to get rich [with a compulsive, greedy longing for wealth] fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction [leading to personal misery].

For we have brought nothing into the world, so [it is clear that] we cannot take anything out of it, either. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

For we have brought nothing into the world, so [it is clear that] we cannot take anything out of it, either. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

Tesouros no céu

Ajuntai tesouros no céu, onde traça e ferrugem não consomem. O bom nome vale mais que muitas riquezas, e a sabedoria supera o ouro.

"Do not store up for yourselves [material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal;

for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.

Jesus answered him, "If you wish to be perfect [that is, have the spiritual maturity that accompanies godly character with no moral or ethical deficiencies], go and sell what you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk]."

On Life and Conduct

A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches;

And favor is better than silver and gold.

How much better it is to get wisdom than gold!

And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver. [Prov 8:10, 19]

Better is a little with the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the Lord

Than great treasure and trouble with it. [Ps 37:16; Prov 16:8; 1 Tim 6:6]

Contentamento e generosidade

Grande ganho é a piedade com contentamento. A cobiça é idolatria, mas a generosidade traz alegria e bênção.

But godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment [that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the sufficiency of God].

As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greedbe financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, "I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsakeorlet you downorrelax My hold on you [assuredly not]!" [Josh 1:5]

So put to death and deprive of power the evil longings of your earthly body [with its sensual, self-centered instincts] immorality, impurity, sinful passion, evil desire, and greed, which is [a kind of] idolatry [because it replaces your devotion to God].

Then He said to them, "Watch out and guard yourselves against every form of greed; for not even when one has an overflowing abundance does his life consist of nor is it derived from his possessions."

The Folly of Riches

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its gain. This too is vanity (emptiness).

As he came naked from his mother’s womb, so he will return as he came; and he will take away nothing from all his labor that he can carry in his hand. [Job 1:21; 1 Tim 6:7]

O invisível acima do visível

As coisas que se veem são temporais; as que não se veem são eternas. Devemos fixar os olhos no que é permanente e verdadeiro.

So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable.

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,

And like a high wall [of protection] in his own imagination and conceit.

Riches will not provide security in the day of wrath and judgment,

But righteousness rescues from death. [Prov 10:2; Zeph 1:18]

When you set your eyes on wealth, it is [suddenly] gone.

For wealth certainly makes itself wings

Like an eagle that flies to the heavens.

He craves all the day long [and does no work],

But the righteous [willingly] gives and does not withhold [what he has]. [2 Cor 9:6-10]

Keep deception and lies far from me;

Give me neither poverty nor riches;

Feed me with the food that is my portion,

Women Instructed

Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and discreetly in proper clothing, not with [elaborately] braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but instead adorned by good deeds [helping others], as is proper for women who profess to worship God.

Sharing among Believers

Now the company of believers was of one heart and soul, and not one [of them] claimed that anything belonging to him was [exclusively] his own, but everything was common property and for the use of all.
