Materialismo: o perigo da riqueza e o contentamento

And he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.(Luke 12:15)

Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;(Colossians 3:5)

For what shall a man be profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?(Matthew 16:26)

For what doth it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?(Mark 8:36)

He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase: this also is vanity.(Ecclesiastes 5:10)

As he came forth from his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.(Ecclesiastes 5:15)

for we brought nothing into the world, for neither can we carry anything out; but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.(1 Timothy 6:7,8)

But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.(1 Timothy 6:9)

Riches profit not in the day of wrath;

But righteousness delivereth from death.(Proverbs 11:4)

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,

And as a high wall in his own imagination.(Proverbs 18:11)

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not?

For riches certainly make themselves wings,

Like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.(Proverbs 23:5)

Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.(Hebrews 13:5)

Better is little, with the fear of Jehovah,

Than great treasure and trouble therewith.(Proverbs 15:16)

How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!

Yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.(Proverbs 16:16)

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,

And loving favor rather than silver and gold.(Proverbs 22:1)

Remove far from me falsehood and lies;

Give me neither poverty nor riches;

Feed me with the food that is needful for me:(Proverbs 30:8)

In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment; but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works.(1 Timothy 2:9,10)

Generosidade e tesouros duradouros

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:(Matthew 6:19,20)

for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.(Matthew 6:21)

Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.(Matthew 19:21)

Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;(1 Timothy 6:17)

There is that coveteth greedily all the day long;

But the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.(Proverbs 21:26)

And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and soul: and not one of them said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.(Acts 4:32)

while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.(2 Corinthians 4:18)
