Na Escritura, a mentira é tratada como uma quebra direta da comunhão com Deus, cuja própria natureza é a verdade. O engano corrompe o caráter de quem fala, destrói a convivência humana e contradiz a integridade que Deus requer do seu povo.
The Lord hates liars but is happy with those who are trustworthy.(Proverbs 12:22)
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven things that he absolutely detests: arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that murder the innocent, a mind that plots evil schemes, feet that hurriedly run to do wrong, a false witness that speaks lies, those who caused arguments in families.(Proverbs 6:16-19)

Jesus apontou a raiz espiritual da mentira ao chamá-la de linguagem própria do diabo. Por isso, a caminhada cristã exige o abandono intencional de qualquer falsidade, substituindo o disfarce pela sinceridade com o próximo.

A mentira pode parecer um atalho ou proteção momentânea, mas o texto bíblico adverte que ela não se sustenta com o tempo. A palavra verdadeira resiste e constrói, enquanto a fraude arruína relacionamentos, destrói reputações e atrai o juízo divino.
Words of truth last forever, but lies are gone in a moment.(Proverbs 12:19)
A false witness will be punished; people who tell lies will perish.(Proverbs 19:9)
Money made by lies is like smoke in the wind—a chase that ends in death.(Proverbs 21:6)
