28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now *finished, said (*to fulfill the Scripture), *"I thirst."29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, *so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, *"It is finished," and he bowed his head and *gave up his spirit.

23 *When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic.* But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 so they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be." *This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,

*"They divided my garments among them,

and for my clothing they cast lots."

So the soldiers did these things, 25 *but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and *the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, *"Woman, behold, your son!"27 Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to *his own home.

33 *And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, *one on his right and one on his left. 34 And Jesus said, "Father, *forgive them, *for they know not what they do."* And they cast lots *to divide his garments. 35 And *the people stood by, watching, *but *the rulers *scoffed at him, saying, *"He saved others; *let him save himself, *if he is *the Christ of God, *his Chosen One!" 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and *offering him sour wine 37 and saying, *"If you are *the King of the Jews, save yourself!" 38 *There was also an inscription over him,* "This is *the King of the Jews."

39 *One of the criminals who were hanged *railed at him,* saying, "Are you not *the Christ? Save yourself and us!" 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 And he said, "Jesus, remember me *when you come into your kingdom." 43 And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in *paradise."

33 And when the sixth hour* had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.*34 And at the ninth hour Jesus *cried with a loud voice, *"Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

51 And behold, *the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And *the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of *the saints *who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into *the holy city and appeared to many. 54 *When the centurion and those who were with him, *keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, *"Truly this was the Son* of God!"

5 *But he was pierced for our transgressions;

he was crushed for our iniquities;

upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

*and with his wounds we are healed.

6 *All we like sheep have gone astray;

we have turned—every one—to his own way;

*and the Lord has laid on him

the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,

*yet he opened not his mouth;

*like a *lamb that is led to the slaughter,

and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,

so he opened not his mouth.

16 For *dogs encompass me;

a company of evildoers *encircles me;

they have *pierced my hands and feet*—

17 I can count all my bones—

they *stare and gloat over me;

18 *they divide my garments among them,

and for my clothing they cast lots.

7 All who see me *mock me;

they make mouths at me; they *wag their heads;

8 *"He trusts in the Lord; let him *deliver him;

let him rescue him, for he *delights in him!"

13 *Greater love has no one than this, *that someone lay down his life for his friends.

16 "For *God so loved *the world,**that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not *perish but have eternal life.

10 For if *while we were enemies *we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by *his life.

16 By this we know love, that *he laid down his life for us, and *we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

2 *He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but *also for the sins of the whole world.

8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by *becoming obedient to the point of death, *even death on a cross.

9 We know that *Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; *death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, *once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.

3 Do you not know that all of us *who have been baptized *into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were *buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as *Christ was raised from the dead by *the glory of the Father, we too might walk in *newness of life.

27 And just as *it is appointed for man to die once, and *after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once *to bear the sins of *many, will appear *a second time, *not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly *waiting for him.

22 "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, *a man attested to you by God *with *mighty works and wonders and signs that *God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus,**delivered up according to *the definite plan and *foreknowledge of God, *you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 *God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because *it was not possible for him to be held by it.

11 *I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd *lays down his life for the sheep.

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death *until he comes.
