13 I am able to do all things through him  * who strengthens me.  *

29 He gives strength to the faint

and strengthens the powerless.

30 Youths may become faint and weary,

and young men stumble and fall,

31 but those who trust in the  Lord

will renew their strength;  *

they will soar on wings like eagles;  *

they will run and not become weary,

they will walk and not faint.

10 I rejoice greatly in the  Lord,

I exult in my God;

for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation

and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness,  *

as a groom wears a turban

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.  *

13 For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not  * consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind  * and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly  * call in Christ Jesus.  *

24 Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race,  * but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize.  *25 Now everyone who competes exercises self-control  * in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown,  * but we an imperishable crown. 26 So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air. 27 Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.  *

The Call to Endurance

1 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses  * surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance  * the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus,  * the pioneer and perfecter  * of our faith. For the joy that lay before him,  * he endured the cross, despising the shame,  * and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Fatherly Discipline

3 For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.  *

23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people,  *

11 For I know the plans I have for you"  *  — this is the Lord’s declaration — "plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified*in the Son.*14 If you ask me*anything in my name,*I will do it.*,*

19 Go, therefore, and make disciples*of*all nations,*baptizing*them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,*I am with you always,*to the end of the age."*

6 Be strong and courageous;  * don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you;  * he will not leave you or abandon you."  *

10 Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your strength,  * because there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom  * in Sheol where you are going.

7 Though a thousand fall at your side

and ten thousand at your right hand,

the pestilence will not reach you.  *

29 Don’t strive for what you should eat and what you should drink, and don’t be anxious.30 For the Gentile world eagerly seeks*all these things, and your Father*knows that you need them.

10 In fact, when we were with you, this is what we commanded you: "If anyone isn’t willing to work, he should not eat."  *11 For we hear that there are some among you who are idle. They are not busy but busybodies.  *12 Now we command and exhort such people by the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and provide for themselves.  *13 But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary  * in doing good.
