1 The wisest of women* builds her house,

but the foolish tears it down with her hands.

10 The start of wisdom is fear of Yahweh,

and knowledge of the Holy One,* insight.

33 Fear of Yahweh is the instruction of the wise,

and before honor comes humility.

5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask for it from God, who gives to all without reservation and not reproaching, and it will be given to him.

11 Seek Yahweh and his strength;

seek his face continually!

An Excellent Woman#Prov 31:10–31 is an acrostic poem

10 A woman* of excellence,* who will find?

For her worth is far more than precious jewels.

25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,

and she laughs at the future.*

26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,

and instruction of kindness is upon her tongue.

28 Her children rise and consider her happy,

her husband* also, and he praises her;

29 "Many daughters have done excellence,*

but you surpass* all of them."

30 Charm* is deceit and beauty* is vain;*

but a woman who fears Yahweh shall be praised.

4 A woman of strength* is the crown of her master,*

but like rot in his bones is she who brings shame.

16 A woman of grace receives honor,

but the ruthless gets wealth.

14 A house and wealth are an inheritance from fathers,

but from Yahweh comes a woman* who is prudent.

3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderous, not enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 in order that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, busy at home, good, being subject to their own husbands, in order that the word of God may not be slandered.

11 The wives* likewise must be dignified, not slanderous, temperate, faithful in all things.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1 "Then the kingdom of heaven may be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and* went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 For when* the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take olive oil with them. 4 But the wise ones took olive oil in flasks with their lamps. 5 And when* the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.*6 But in the middle of the night there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish ones said to the wise ones, ‘Give us some of your olive oil, because our lamps are going out!’ 9 But the wise ones answered saying, "Certainly there will never be enough for us and for you! Go instead to those who sell olive oil* and buy some* for yourselves.’ 10 But while* they had gone away to buy it* the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding celebration, and the door was shut. 11 And later the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open the door* for us!’ 12 But he answered and* said, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you!’ 13 Therefore be on the alert, because you do not know the day or the hour!
