4 "How can anyone be born when he is old? " Nicodemus asked him. "Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born? "

5 Jesus answered, "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born*of water and the Spirit,*he cannot enter the kingdom of God.6 Whatever is born of the flesh*is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit*is spirit.7 Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born*again.8 The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going.*So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."*

5 Jesus answered, "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born*of water and the Spirit,*he cannot enter the kingdom of God.6 Whatever is born of the flesh*is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit*is spirit.7 Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born*again.

15 Truly I tell you,*whoever does not receive*,*the kingdom of God like a little child*will never enter it."

Who Is the Greatest?

1 At that time  *,* the disciples  * came to Jesus and asked, "So who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? "  *2 He called a small child and had him stand among them. 3 "Truly I tell you," he said, "unless you turn and become like little children,*you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.*4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child — this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;  * the old has passed away, and see,  * the new has  * come!  *

4 Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death,  * in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead  * by the glory of the Father,  * so we too may walk in newness  * of life.  *5 For if we have been united with him in the likeness of his death,  * we will certainly also be  * in the likeness of his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self  *,* was crucified with him  * so that the body ruled by sin  * might be rendered powerless  * so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, 7 since a person who has died  * is freed  * from sin.

11 So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin  * and alive to God in Christ Jesus.  *

20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  * The life I now live in the body,  * I live by faith in the Son of God,  * who loved  * me  * and gave himself  * for me.  *

22 to take off  *,* your former way of life,  * the old self  * that is corrupted by deceitful desires, 23 to be renewed  * in the spirit  * of your minds, 24 and to put on  *,* the new self, the one created  * according to God’s likeness  * in righteousness and purity of the truth.

9 Do not lie  * to one another, since you have put off  * the old self  * with its practices 10 and have put on  * the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your  * Creator.  *11 In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.  *

12 But to all who did receive  * him,  * he gave them the right  * to be  * children  * of God,  * to those who believe  * in his name,  *13 who were born,  * not of natural descent,  * or of the will  * of the flesh,  * or of the will of man,  * but of God.  *

A Living Hope

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  * Because of his great mercy  * he has given us new birth  * into a living hope  * through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead  *4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable,  * undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven  * for you.

23 because you have been born again  *  — not of perishable seed  * but of imperishable — through the living and enduring word of God.  *

2 Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word,  *,* so that by it you may grow up into your salvation, 3 if you have tasted*that the Lord is good.*,*

1 See what great love  * the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children — and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed.  * We know that when he appears,  * we will be like him  * because we will see him as he is.  *

4 When the time came to completion, God sent his Son,  * born of a woman,  * born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.  *

19 I will give them integrity of  * heart  * and put a new spirit within them; I will remove their heart of stone  * from their bodies  * and give them a heart of flesh,  *20 so that they will follow my statutes,  * keep my ordinances, and practice them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.  *

4 But God, who is rich in mercy,  * because of his great love  * that he had for us,  *5 made us alive  * with Christ even though we were dead  * in trespasses. You are saved by grace!
