10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for *all the people.

11 For this day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (the Messiah). [Mic 5:2]

4 So Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register with Mary, who was *betrothed to him, and was with child. [Matt 1:18-25]

6 While they were there [in Bethlehem], the time came for her to give birth, 7 and she gave birth to her Son, her firstborn; and she wrapped Him in [*swaddling] cloths and laid Him in a *manger, because there was no [private] room for them in the inn.

14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Listen carefully, the *virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will call his name Immanuel (God with us). [Is 9:6; Jer 31:22; Mic 5:3-5; Matt 1:22, 23]

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the Child who has been *conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

21 She will give birth to a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus (The Lord is salvation), for He will *save His people from their sins."

22 All this happened in order to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the *prophet [Isaiah]: 23 "Behold, the*virgin shall be with child and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel"—which, when translated, means, "God with us." [Is 7:14]

14 "Glory to God in the highest [heaven],

And on earth peace among men with whom He is well-pleased."

20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as it had been told them.
