A obediência aos pais é mandamento divino com promessa de vida longa. A Bíblia valoriza a honra filial e ensina os filhos a respeitar e obedecer aos pais com amor.
Honrar pai e mãe
O quinto mandamento ordena honrar pai e mãe. É o primeiro mandamento com promessa: para que vá bem e vivas muito na terra.
Respect your father and your mother, and you will live a long time in the land I am giving you.

Didn’t God command you to respect your father and mother? Didn’t he tell you to put to death all who curse their parents?
Children and Parents
Children, you belong to the Lord, and you do the right thing when you obey your parents. The first commandment with a promise says, "Obey your father and your mother, and you will have a long and happy life."
Parents, don’t be hard on your children. Raise them properly. Teach them and instruct them about the Lord.

Warnings against Bad Friends
My child, obey the teachings
of your parents,
and wear their teachings
as you would a pretty hat
or a lovely necklace.

Their teaching will guide you
when you walk,
protect you when you sleep,
and talk to you
when you are awake.
The Law of the Lord is a lamp,
and its teachings
shine brightly.
Correction and self-control
will lead you through life.
Advice to Young People
My child, listen closely
to my teachings
and learn common sense.
My advice is useful,
so don’t turn away.
When I was still very young
and my mother’s favorite child,
my father said to me:
"If you follow my teachings
and keep them in mind,
you will live.
Be wise and learn good sense;
remember my teachings
and do what I say.
"If you love Wisdom
and don’t reject her,
she will watch over you.
Wise Friends Make You Wise
Children with good sense
accept correction
from their parents,
but stubborn children
ignore it completely.
Teach your children
right from wrong,
and when they are grown
they will still do right.

Correct your children,
and they will be wise;
children out of control
disgrace their mothers.
Disgraceful children

and chase their mother away.
Don’t make fun of your father
or disobey your mother—
crows will peck out your eyes,
and buzzards will eat
the rest of you.
Death is the punishment for attacking your father or mother.
A father and a mother may have a stubborn and rebellious son who refuses to obey them even after he has been punished. If a son is like that, his parents must drag him to the town gate, where the leaders of the town hold their meetings. The parents will tell the leaders, "This son of ours is stubborn and never obeys. He spends all his time drinking and partying."
The men of the town will stone that son to death, because they must get rid of the evil he brought into the community. Everyone in Israel will be afraid when they hear how he was punished.
The Body of a Criminal
Moses said to Israel:
Children who curse their parents
will go to the land of darkness
long before their time.
Be patient when you are being corrected! This is how God treats his children. Don’t all parents correct their children?
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they should learn to serve God by taking care of her, as she once took care of them. This is what God wants them to do.
